How do you put into words the impact Elizabeth Marguerite Stitt has had on the people in her life since the wonderful day she arrived on February 19, 1923? What do you say about a lifetime of compassion, sweetness, strength and resilience? At the age of 97 years, Elizabeth left this world peacefully in her sleep on Sunday, July 12, 2020. She will be remembered as a strong, quiet sister; a fun loving, joyful wife; a fiercely loving mother; a caring, soft grandmother; a compassionate friend; and a rock star of a human being. Born in Portland, Oregon as the second of five kids to Roy and Alfreda McKay, she grew into this amazing, thoughtful, and special woman. She then married her strong Navy husband, Thom Stitt in Calgary, Alberta on April 4, 1942.
Bearing four beautiful children, Elizabeth and Thom led an adventurous life living in different parts of Alberta and BC, and travelling the world before settling down in Calgary to live out their retirement together.
Elizabeth was predeceased by her father Roy McKay; mother Alfred McKay; brother Jack McKay; two sisters Elsie Brinker, and Reata Mitchell; her son Rod Stitt; and her dear husband Thom in 2011.
She will be dearly missed by many, including her daughters Joanne Long, and Susan Belsher; her son Rick Stitt; and her many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren. Elizabeth is also survived by her sister Jessie Brown, and many nieces, nephews, and extended family.
