

Emily Albertha Byers away peacefully at the Newport Harbour Long Term Care Facility in Calgary, AB on Thursday, April 25, 2013 at the age of 83 years. She is survived by her brothers Hubert Scott (Josie) of Calgary, and John Watson (Joanne) of Conrich; four sons Bob (Norma) of Stettler, Ian of Calgary, John (Lisa Morton) of Bowden and Don (Colleen) of Windsor, UK; daughter-in-law Sharleen and numerous grandchildren great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Emily is predeceased by her parents Ellis and Ella Watson, her husband and best friend Cecil and youngest son Mark. She was born in Calgary, AB on April 26, 1929. Emily graduated from Crescent Heights High School and went on to be trained as a comptometer operator at the Calgary Business School. She married Cecil Byers on April 26, 1950 and enjoyed raising a family of five boys in Calgary. Em and Cec retired to Sechelt, British Columbia in the late 80’s where they built their dream home. They returned to Alberta in 1994 and moved to Stettler where Emily became involved in quilting. She made many quilting friends. In 2000, Emily moved back to Calgary. The family would like to thank the staff at the Newport Harbour Centre for caring for Emily over the past ten years. A Celebration of Emily’s Life Gathering for family and friends will be held at a later date.
