Eric Oosterhuis

Eric Oosterhuis passed away unexpectedly at the home he shared with his wife on December 15, 2018 at the age of 55 years. Eric is lovingly remembered by his wife Sharon of 29 years; his eldest daughter Jessica; second eldest daughter Lindsay; and youngest daughter Alyssa; as well as his two young granddaughters Olivia and Mackenzie.

Eric was born in Eindhoven, Holland and moved to Canada with his parents Jan and Hendrika as a young child. Although he spent most of his life in Canada, he returned to Holland as a teenager to live out some of his youth.

If you knew Eric, he would say the proudest moments of his life were watching his daughters grow up and were his greatest achievements. The profound love he had for his girls was unmistakable. Not only was Eric a loving man, he was a simple man. He was happiest laying out in the sunshine surrounded by loved ones telling jokes and telling stories about the good ol’ days. He also got a rise out of playing pranks on anybody who would fall for them. He was a big kid at heart. It was Eric who took the kids, nieces, nephews, and all their friends wandering down back alleys, teaching them the art of urban foraging such as picking crab apples, raspberries, and rhubarb. It was Eric who jumped into any lake, creek, or river to swim with the kids and discover the world of underwater treasures. He sparked the imagination of those around him with a passion for astronomy, and a belief that something greater always existed beyond life on Earth with his eye in the sky stargazing any moment he could. Discovery and adventure stemmed from Eric’s playful and curious personality. He was fascinated with how the world and things worked always tinkering away at old electronics and telescopes. Eric will lovingly be remembered for his kindness, sense of humour, generosity, and reliability. To say that Eric was the rock for his family is a massive understatement and will be tragically missed.

Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at a Celebration of Life that will be held at Bowness Scout and Lions Hall, (8551 Bowness Rd NW), on Saturday, December 29, 2018 from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
