Ethel Barnes passed away on August 4, 2013 in Calgary. She was the only child of Neil and Margaret Beaton. Ethel is survived by her children Neil (Linda Lee) and Lorraine (Garry Toews); 2 granddaughters, Regan (Lance Bourassa) and Kate (Sean Redford); 2 great grandchildren, Lauren and Garrett. She is also survived by her extended family of nieces and nephews along with their children and grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Frank Barnes, her parents and step-brother Hugh and step-sister Ada.
Ethel was a member of St. Albert The Great Catholic Parish since 2005, previously of Holy Spirit and St. Johns. She was active throughout her life in the CWL and Catholic Charities. Ethel was a devout Catholic who made every effort to live her faith every day. She was an active member of the ANAF Ladies Auxiliary and a member of the Southern Alberta Pioneers and Their Descendants.
In her younger years Mom was a wonderful seamstress and a great cook. Baked goodies were definitely her forte and those wonderful smells permeated her home. Mom enjoyed nothing more thoroughly than a good book, drives in the country and, of course, chocolate anything! She volunteered endless hours to many different charities and made a point of involving her children so that they too would learn to appreciate the richness of their lives and understand the needs of others.
Her family was small but she enjoyed a very large circle of friends, from the very young to the very old. Mom was always generous and kind to those in need. The doors to her home and heart were always open to friends and strangers alike. She loved her pets and her plants but most especially her family and friends. The world has lost a kind soul with the passing our Mom, but her passing is heavens gain. We love you Mom from the bottom of our hearts.
