April 19, 1924 – Drumheller, Alberta
November 3, 2020 – Calgary, Alberta
It is with extreme sadness that we announce the passing of Eva at the age of 96.
Eva was born in Drumheller, Alberta and grew up with her mother and father, Almeda and Hugh, and brothers Laurie and Doug on the Sinclair homestead in Michichi, Alberta.
After obtaining her teaching degree, Eva taught school in a one room school house out in the rural areas north of Drumheller, having to ride on horseback to and from the school. Later she taught at Woods Home in Bowness.
In 1947, Eva married Norm Hunter and shortly afterward they moved to Morley where “Mom” had the privilege of teaching young Stoney children. Their son Randy was born in 1953. In 1961, the family moved into Calgary where Eva then became a guidance counsellor with The Federal Department of Indian Affairs. Her teaching and counselling expertise spanned many years.
Eva had a very special talent of producing “Paper Tole” works of art. Some 168 projects adorn the walls in homes all over the world.
Throughout Eva’s and Norm’s lives, they were able to travel extensively by cruise ship, car and trailer, motorhome and bus tours. Even after Norm passed away, Eva traveled to Mexico and then to Australia on her own to meet up with dear friends.
In the later years, Eva moved out of her home in Parkdale and resided in a seniors complex called Shalem in S.W. Calgary where she still enjoyed her independence. There, she met many wonderful friends, some of whom were very dedicated with their support for Mom.
In February of 2020, Eva moved into Cedars Villa Care Center where she had wonderful care from all the staff. A big thank you goes out to them all.
Mom was also an active member of the Parkdale Nifty Fifties Seniors Association.
“Mama’s” circle of friends was very extensive. She had the gift of meeting people over her lifetime and continued to have very close friendships with them all for many years until her passing. Eva was an extremely special lady, whose love, thoughtfulness and kindness towards her family and friends always came before her own needs.
Eva was predeceased by her much beloved husband Norm, brothers Laurie and Doug, sister-in-laws Winnie and Gloria, very special daughter-in-law Odete and nephew Rocky Tretiak, as well as relatives of extended families.
Left to mourn the loss of “Mom”, “Mama”, and “Aunty” is her loving son Randy, precious grandson Jordan (Marta), niece Mary Tretiak and nephews Danny Sinclair (Sharin), Cam Sinclair (Sheila) and David Sinclair (Linda) as well as many other extended families here in Canada, the U.S.A., the U.K. and Germany.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to organizations that help the less fortunate.
At Mom’s request there will be no funeral service. A Celebration of Life reception will be held at a later date due to Covid-19 concerns.
