Finn Bjørn Spanggaard

He was born on January 26, 1948, in Randers, Denmark, a son of Jens Kristian Mogensen Spanggaard and Viola Bjørn Spanggaard. In his youth, he enjoyed being a boy scout, camping, fishing, playing guitar, and spending time with his friends.

He was trained as a bricklayer, like his father, and studied to be an engineer at Aarhus University. He also spent a year in the Danish Army. He moved to Canada at 27 years old, where he built a beautiful house in Calgary. He pursued his career as a civil engineer, traveled the world, and supported his family.

In addition to his parents, Finn was preceded in death by three older brothers: Orla Spanggaard, Bent Spanggaard, and Karl Erik Spanggaard. He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Garza, and loving girls, Keanna and Luisa Spanggaard.

Through his journey of 78 years, he touched many lives with his wealth of wisdom, natural charisma, and a wonderful sense of humour. His love for new cultures, travel, and world history will be carried forward by his daughters. He will be greatly missed and forever remembered.

A Memorial Service will be held at FOSTER’S GARDEN CHAPEL, 3220 – 4 Street N.W., Calgary (across from Queen’s Park Cemetery) on Saturday, August 15th, 2026, at 10 a.m.
