The family of Florence Grottenberg sadly announce the passing of their beloved mother and grandmother on Sunday, January 12, 2025, suddenly, at her residence in Calgary, Alberta, aged 95 years. Born in Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1929, Florence was employed for over 35 years by the Hudson’s Bay Company in Winnipeg—first as an office worker, then as a commissioned salesperson.
Florence touched the lives of many people who enjoyed her quick wit and generous heart. She was predeceased by her parents Peter and Elsie, and by siblings Harold, Wilbert, Florence, John, Elsie, and Melvin. Florence will be lovingly remembered by son Gary and daughter-in-law Iris (Calgary, AB), grandson Samuel (North Vancouver, BC), three great-grandchildren (Elias, Charis, and Evalee); and various nieces and nephews. A devoted member of Renfrew United Church in Calgary, she was engaged in the church for many years until its recent closure.
According to Florence’s stated wishes, there will not be a public memorial service.
