Gerald was born and raised in Bird Cove, Newfoundland. He loved his home town with a passion as well as the ocean. Gerald was a fisherman in his earlier years but he spent most of his working life as a logger. He had a great sense of humour, a big heart and he was always unselfish and easy going. Gerald would never speak ill of anyone. For anyone who worked with him always said how much they enjoyed working with him and how great of a worker he was. In 1989, Gerald moved away from Newfoundland but he still made regular trips to visit his family back home. He was so proud of his family.
