Saturday, May 23, 2020 in Calgary, Alberta at the age of 86.
Gerda will be greatly missed by her loving husband Kurt; son Raymond (Irmgard) Geuder of Calgary, Alberta; daughter Michelle (Shaun) Johnson of Bragg Creek, Alberta; 4 grandchildren, Christine (Ray) Lambert, David Geuder (Christianne), Courtney Johnson (Evan) and Blake Johnson; brothers and families of Guenter Obermeier and Dieter Obermeier of Germany and Horst Obermeier of Calgary, Alberta. She was predeceased by her parents Wendelin and Wilhelmine; brother Siegfried and sister Renate.
Gerda was born on April 18, 1934 in Heideck, Germany. She married Kurt in 1956 and they immigrated to Calgary, Canada in 1957. After moving to Calgary, Gerda began working as a cake decorator and then Empress Foods until she retired in 1990. Over a period of 7 years, the couple welcomed two children into their home. Gerda set about teaching them to be kind, independent and hard-working individuals. Her children and grandchildren remember her as a loving, giving and caring mother/grandmother who encouraged them to pursue their goals and was their biggest cheerleader.
Gerda was accomplished at cooking and baking and would often insist that more be eaten than could possibly be handled. She was a generous woman who loved her family above all else and who enjoyed playing music on her guitar, accordion and electric organ.
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic social gathering restrictions, a private family celebration of life will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to The Salvation Army at https://salvationarmy.ca. The family would like to thank the Unit 82 Staff at the Foothills Medical Centre for their dedication in taking care of Gerda and sincerely appreciate their efforts.
