

Gladys was born and raised in Vermillion, AB and had five sisters and one brother and spent most of her life in Edmonton, AB. Gladys was a shy but friendly person that loved her family very much, and they all loved her Sunday dinners. Gladys and John had six children: Michael, Catherine, Patricia, Gail, James and Frances, all born in Calgary, AB.
She enjoyed many trips to Hawaii and Mesa, AZ but her favourite place was at home with a good book.
Gladys is survived by her children and grandchildren, Michael O’Donnell (Theressa, John, Shannon), Catherine and Bryan Setter (Troy, Ryan, Neil), Gail Dafoe (Alana), James O’Donnell (Rory, Brianna), Frances and Darryl Leighton (Sean, Danielle); several great grandchildren; and son-in-law, Dennis Hobbs.
She is predeceased by her beloved husband John O’Donnell in 2005 and daughter Patricia Hobbs in 2018; parents Arthur and May Coutts; brother Allan Coutts, sisters Annie Clarke, Sadie Rochford, and Violet Hobbis.
The family would like to express their many thanks to the caring team on Unit 74 at the Rockyview General Hospital.
Gladys will be lovingly remembered by all and missed enormously.
A Memorial Reception will be held at Foster’s Garden Chapel, 3220 – 4 Street N.W., Calgary (across from Queen’s Park Cemetery), on Saturday, August 15, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Gladys’s final resting place will be with her husband John, at Our Lady of Peace Cemetery in Edmonton, AB.
