With heavy hearts we announce that Gordon Needham passed away at the South Health Campus in Calgary, Alberta on Wednesday August 31, 2016 after 86 adventurous years. He was born to Fred and Bertha Needham in Craigmyle, Alberta. Gordon grew up and lived his entire life in and around central Alberta, spending many of his years in Drumheller and Strathmore with his beloved wife Leah Needham who sadly passed away twelve years prior to Gordon. He left a memorable mark on this world and will be missed dearly by his four children, Debbie Thompson (Rick Thompson), Dennis Hurly, Patsey Michetti, and Tim Needham. He was amazing grandfather to his nine grandchildren, Patrick, Tony (Melissa), Laura (Max), Jennell (Tim), Ryan (Holly), Jamie and Ashley. He is also survived by his last remaining sister, Irene DeWitt. He was predeceased by his son James “Jim”, and twelve of his brothers and sisters. In his youth Gordon was a great and often rugged hockey player who grew into an avid sports fan. This theme would prevail as he enjoyed his role as a regular umpire for minor league baseball and never missed an opportunity to pass his skill set with baseball and skating onto his grandchildren. Gordon made a lasting impression on family, friends and new acquaintances. He had the ability to spark conversation for hours, leaving each of them with memories to cherish. He lived a full and complete life with a range of experiences that he often shared. He will live in our hearts forever, as we are saddened by his passing, but grateful for the lasting memories. If friends so desire, memorial donations may be made directly to the Calgary Humane Society (4455 110 Avenue SE, Calgary, Alberta T2C 2T7).
