Grant passed away peacefully at Dulcina Hospice in Calgary, Alberta on January 10, 2020 at the age of 93. The youngest of four boys, he was born August 24, 1926 on his parents’ farm in Mayton, Alberta and grew up in an active and loving family. He attended school at May City, Wimborne, and Olds, then continued his education at the University of Alberta, 1945-46, landing him in a brief career as a teacher near Oyen, then Brooks, and finally in Calgary where he ended his teaching career in 1950. He met the love of his life, Agnes Owen, in 1951 and they were married on December 29, 1952 in Vancouver. Grant explored several career options including insurance, geophysical work and accounting in the construction industry before landing his dream job with Mobil Oil Canada in 1956, where he worked proudly for thirty years. As his career progressed, Mobil relocated the family from Calgary to Regina, back to Calgary then to Edmonton and finally back to Calgary in 1966.
His home was always full of love, and the sounds of music and laughter. After Grant’s retirement in 1986, he and Aggie travelled extensively, touching every continent except Antarctica. When at home they were busy with more local travel, spending time at Fairmont and Invermere, golfing and keeping busy with family and friends. Many happy memories of family time were built when they purchased their property at Pine Lake, where he enjoyed fishing, maintaining the property and many campfire. Grant was actively involved in the Pine Lake Restoration Society and the Plus 40 Group for many years.
Grant is survived by his children Terri Hammond, Dave (Lorna), Cathy (Bruce Michie), and Bill (Silvana). Thirteen grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews also mourn his loss. He was predeceased by his loving wife Aggie, his grand-daughter Lora Michie and son-in-law Bill Hammond.
