Hilda was born on April 6, 1942 in St. Poulten, Austria as the fourth child of five children of Friedrich and Lydia Knodel. She immigrated by ship from the war in Germany and landed in Quebec in 1954 and then travelled by train to Coaldale, Alberta where she worked and lived until she moved to Calgary, Alberta. Hilda met her husband, Waldemar at the German/Canadian Club; they married and had three children. She worked for Sears Canada for 20 years. Hilda’s passions in life were her children, grandchildren, gardening, the German Ladies Choir, traveling and painting. She will always be remembered as a kind, compassionate and generous soul.
Hilda is survived by her husband of 54 years, Waldemar, son David, daughters Christine (Anthony) Palichuk and Barbara (Rob) Donaldson; five grandchildren April (Ryan), Nicholas (Maddie) and Leanne Palichuk, Peri and TJ Donaldson; her brother Simon (Wilma) Knodel, sisters Theresa Schmidt and Kathy (Ray) Madu. She was predeceased by her parents Friedrich and Lydia Knodel and her sister Adele Neufeld.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Foster’s Garden Chapel, 3220 – 4 Street N.W., Calgary, Alberta (across from Queen’s Park Cemetery), on Saturday, September 21, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. Interment to follow at Queen’s Park Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations may be made directly to a charity of one’s choice.
