

Irene Gladys Beaton passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 28, 2016 surrounded by family after a brief illness at the age of 93 years. Irene was born in Moose Jaw, SK to parents Owen Robert Bell and Sophia Jane Johnson. She married the love of her life Bud on November 7, 1942 and had sixty-two wonderful years together until Bud’s passing in 2005. Irene and Bud spent twenty-six years in Outlook, SK and made their way to Calgary in 1969 where they finished raising their family. Irene enjoyed her jobs at local cafes and working in retail at Woolworths and TD Canada Trust until retirement. As a couple, Irene and Bud spent years making music together and sharing their talents with all those who enjoyed their performances and jam sessions. Most of all Irene loved spending time with her friends and family and was truly a wonderful mother and grandmother. Irene is survived by her children Loney (Murray), Penny (Vern), Bette (Jim), Robert (Bernice), Joseph (Dawn), Blaine (Freda); as well as twenty grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by both parents; husband Morris ‘Bud’ Bruce; sons Malcolm, Morrice and Murray; as well as granddaughter Marie ‘Mia’ Louise and seven brothers. The family would like to thank the wonderful staff and all her friends at the Spruce Lodge where she lived and the Peter Lougheed Centre in Calgary. A Celebration of Irene’s life will be held at FOSTER’S GARDEN CHAPEL, 3220 – 4 Street N.W., Calgary (across from Queen’s Park Cemetery) on Saturday, March 5, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. Expressions of sympathy may be forwarded to the family via the website www.fostersgardenchapel.ca.
