Irene is lovingly remembered by her husband of nearly 52 years, Václav, and their daughters Lucie (Christopher), and Katherine Claire (Tom). She was predeceased by her son with Václav, Johnny (1985), and by both her parents in formerly Czechoslovakia.
Before her retirement in 2021, Irene practiced family medicine (with a few short interruptions) for close to 50 years – both in Czechoslovakia (until 1982) and subsequently in Calgary, Alberta, since 1986. A dedicated and compassionate physician, Irene devoted her entire medical career to the care of her patients. Her work made a positive and meaningful difference in many of their lives, and her legacy will live on through the patients she healed and inspired.
Irene’s funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 7, 2026, at Holy Spirit Catholic Church (10827 – 24th Street SW, Calgary, Alberta, T2W 2Z2)
In lieu of flowers, donations in Irene’s name may be made to the Alberta Cancer Foundation.
