13 June, 192810 January, 2021

It is with deep sorrow that his family mourns the loss of Donald Houston who passed away in Calgary, Alberta on the evening of Sunday, January 10, 2021 at the age of 92 years.

Don is survived by children Sandra (Doug), Greg (Laurie), Wendy, Jodi (Art), David, and Dean (Kristyne); grandchildren Meghan (Brooks), Cam (Vinnie), Caitlin (Adam), Alycia and Rebecca; sisters Diane and Lynne; brother Barrie (Nora); and extended family and friends. Don was predeceased by his wife Patricia and grandson Harrison. Don was born in Islay, Alberta, completed his BSc at the University of Alberta and worked for many years as a geophysicist.

Don will be forever remembered for the love he had for his family and his children’s dogs. He coached community soccer and hockey. He had many favorite pastimes including curling, boating, woodcutting, skiing, reading, watching Western movies, and playing Chinese checkers. He especially enjoyed a glass of Crown Royal and spending time at his cabin. Don’s legacy will live on in the hearts of all who loved him, never to be forgotten.

We raise a toast to Don - the man, the myth and the legend.

Thanks to all of the nurses and doctors from Units 61 and 57 at the Foothills Hospital who provided such good care of Don in his final weeks.

A celebration of Don’s life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Don’s memory to the Alberta Cancer Foundation (https://www.albertacancer.ca/donate/).

To, David, Greg, Laurie and Dean whom I know personally and all of Dons' family, Cheryl and I send our condolences regarding your loss. It was always a joy to see Don each spring upon our return to the lake and have those nice quiet conversations with him over the fence. I will remember Don as being a kind, generous, helpful neighbour who was an exemplary gentleman. He will be missed.
May he rest in peace.

Don and I were very sorry to here about Uncle Don. He was always so calm even in the midst of bedlam. Mom has described Uncles Don's endless patience as they grew up. The last time we saw him was at his 90th birthday and he seemed completely content and quietly amused which is how I always saw him. We will miss him. Our thoughts are with all my cousins and his grandchildren.
