James Agnew Keenan

James was born on September 17, 1931, in Cairnryan, Scotland, to James and Agnes Keenan.

After meeting at the Palais de Danse in Edinburgh, Scotland, James and Audrey fell in love and became engaged. They married in 1956 and went on to share 69 wonderful years together, building a life and a home filled with warmth, laughter, family, and enduring love.

In 1968, James and Audrey moved to Calgary, Alberta, with their family, making Canada their home.

James spent most of his working life as an Automotive Technician. Over the years, he worked at several dealerships and went on to own two successful automotive businesses. He took great pride in his work and in the relationships, he built along the way.

Outside of work, James enjoyed golfing, sailing, swimming, gardening, and travelling with his family. He had a wonderful sense of humour, a genuine curiosity about life, and always seemed to have a good story to tell.

A loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, James leaves behind his two daughters, Fiona (Gary) and Ruth (Jeff), who will carry forward his generous, kind, and nurturing spirit.

He is also lovingly remembered by his grandchildren, who brought him immense joy: Alisha (Chris), Kirsty (Brian), Jenn, Kelsey, Scott, Iain (Milena), and Kaileah, as well as his thirteen cherished greatgrandchildren: Keenan, Ryan, Ewan, Audrey, Stefan, Charlie, Emmerson, Oliver, Joel, Lorelei, Isla, Ashton, and Leeland.

James was predeceased by his beloved wife and lifelong partner, Audrey; his cherished son, Niven; and his beloved grandson, Andrew. He carried their memories close to his heart and cherished the love they shared throughout his life.

James will be deeply missed by his family and friends, but his kindness, stories, laughter, and love will remain with all who knew him. He will be forever loved and remembered.

A Memorial Gathering will be held at Foster’s Garden Chapel, 3220 – 4 Street N.W., Calgary (across from Queen’s Park Cemetery) on Thursday, September 3, 2026, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m., with tributes beginning at 2:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made to the Calgary Food Bank.
