James Edward Munro passed away peacefully in Calgary, Alberta on Saturday, October 24, 2020 at the age of 58 years. Jim was known by many names; James, Jim, Jimmy, and Hamish just to name a few. He was the eldest son of Sylvia and James Munro, his namesake. Jim was a lively child, who learned to speak at a very early age. He was always quick with a joke, and could easily entertain a crowd with his stories.
After Jim completed high school, he went on to study water treatment. This is where he developed a strong interest in saving the planet. He developed new processes for water treatment and conservation. Jim never stopped thinking about new ways to make the world a better place. He concerned himself with bettering the lives of the less fortunate; never wanting children to have to drink polluted or dirty water. This led him to patenting a number of products and processes to help preserve and protect our environment. Jim owned and operated the Environment Shop, years before people took the environmental conditions seriously.
Jim married his first love, Christina Munro (nee Copp) on February 20, 1988. His proudest achievement was having his 2 boys, Jacob and Matthew Munro, in the years to follow completing his family. Jim’s marriage came to an end, but he always held a special place in his heart for his boys. He was at his happiest when he was able to spend time with his family.
Jim met Gail Campbell at The Environment Shop when she came to work for him. The two eventually became a couple and Jim became an important part of Gail’s family. He became “like a father” to Gail’s girls Sarah and Katie. Jim thought of the girls as the daughters he never had.
Jim will be remembered as a man with a big heart, who literally would give you the shirt off his back. He was a talented individual who took pride in art and music, as well as many other creative endeavors. A person could often catch him playing the saxophone at one of the local blues clubs. The outdoors is where he felt most comfortable. His hobbies included camping, fishing, and sleeping under stars. It is wonder Jim’s favorite sport is golf, in which he excelled.
Jim is fondly remembered by his mother, Sylvia Munro; children Jacob and Matthew Munro; siblings Janet (Patrick) Fagan, Reg (Leslie) Munro, Jennifer (Trevor) Freimark, as well as many nieces and nephews.
There will be no service at this time due to the new Covid-19 restrictions. The family will be holding a Celebration of Life for Jim when it is safe to do so. In lieu of flowers donations may be made directly to victoryfoundation.ca, casafoundationyeg.org, or charitywater.org.
