The Sinclair Clan is very saddened by the loss of their beloved "chieftain," Jeremiah (Jerry) Sinclair, who passed away on Wednesday, January 22, 2025, at the age of 92. A kind, generous, and fun-loving proud Scotsman, Jerry will be deeply missed by all who knew him. He was the devoted husband of Janette, whom he married in 1955, and they were set to celebrate their 70th wedding anniversary this Valentine's Day. Jerry was a loving father to Ann (Ken), John (Heather), Gordon (Jira) and Karen (Joe).
He was a cherished Papa to Braden (Julia), Kelly (Brent), Kiersten (Lloyd), Sean (Jaclyn), Alex, and Elliott (Kate) as well as a Great Papa to Molly and Zoe, Wyatt and Noah, and Fletcher and Edie. His pride in his family was evident.
Born on August 1, 1932, in West Linton, Scotland, Jerry was the son of John and Johanna Sinclair, where he enjoyed many adventurous childhood moments. He joined the Army, serving as a Military Policeman in Malaysia and Singapore. After his schooling, he worked for his father as a butcher until he and Janette moved to Calgary with their young family in 1966. Leaving behind their home and loved ones, they embraced their new life in Canada with courage and enthusiasm. Jerry was a dedicated hard worker who eventually opened his own Scottish butcher shop, Sinclair’s Meats which quickly became a local favorite due to his exceptional customer service and high-quality products. "When it’s Meat, We Can't Be Beat!" became his motto. Through their hard work, Jerry and Janette were able to sell their business and enjoy an early retirement.
Jerry and Janette loved their annual trips to Hawaii, spending a few winter months there each year until 2018. They also traveled extensively across Canada and the U.S. in their motorhome and embarked on over 40 adventures, including many cruises and trips to Australia, Asia, South America and of course Scotland. Jerry and Janette made it a priority to attend their grandchildren’s events, including many hockey games, dance competitions, 4-H events, soccer games, golf tournaments, graduations, and more. Their Papa was so proud of them all!
A gifted vocalist, Jerry loved to sing and recite poetry, especially works by Robert Burns, often with a "wee dram" in hand. He had a great sense of humor and was the quintessential life of the party.
Besides his immediate family Jerry is survived by his sister and brother In-law Elizabeth and Dougie, sister-in-law Ann and many nieces and nephews as well as special friends.
Jerry was predeceased by his parents John and Johanna, his brother Straton and sister-in-law Cathy, his sister Joan and brother-in-law Andrew, his daughter-in-law Brenda as well as his in-laws Alaric, Jim and Eleanor and Iain.
"Wha’s like us? Gey few, and they’re a’ deid!"
The family would like to extend appreciation to the medical staff on Unit 36 at Foothills Hospital for their care and compassion.
A Celebration of Jerry's life will be held at a later date.
