I came across this notice regarding Joan Elford.
I'm sorry for her passing.
I had never met or known Joan - but had the pleasure of knowing her husband, Vic, for a far too short period of time when he resided here in Vancouver... in the State of Washington.
The little I know of Joan is through Vic's kind and loving words about her.
When it came to knowing Victor Elford ...
"Don't call me Victor!"
he would tell me
"Call me Vic!"
At Christmas or on his birthday my wife and I would make sure Vic was always able to celebrate things.
We would show our love for him with cards and gifts, from the two of us, of things he used/needed and would enjoy.
Things that he used in everyday life ... here in Vancouver.
When Easter would roll around ... we would surprised him with a LARGE basket full of the edible things he favored.
Not the traditional eggs and candies ... but packages of his favorite cookies and premixed pouches of tuna sandwich makings along with a special, small, deli sandwich bread he favored ... with a few of the candy treats that he liked.
Each special day - be it Christmas, a birthday, Easter, Valentine's day, Halloween ... the gifts, baskets and treats were always accompanied by a hand drawn card, from yours truly, to Vic.
For my wife, Sandy, and myself ... Vic was a relative we never knew we had ... it was a pleasure to know him from the first day we meet (which was back in Montana, as I recall, for my father's, Dave Gene Elford, funeral).
Vic was an amazing gentleman to listen to as he had many interesting stories ... on just about everything ... and that Canadian accent made him just that much more interesting to listen to!
We never knew Joan ... but Sandy & I sure love Vic ... if she was anything like him I am sure we would have loved her too!
Well, "with that being said" (to use a Vic line) I felt I MUST take a moment to write.
