Mrs. Joan Esther Knox (nee Welsford) our beloved wife, mother and grandmother, passed away suddenly on February 17, 2019, after a short illness at Rockyview Hospital in Calgary. It was her 94th birthday. Joan had lived in Calgary since 1967 and was a resident of Trinity Lodge at the time of her death. She was born in Vancouver, BC in 1925, the oldest child of Walter and Ellen (nee Duthie) Welsford. Joan was predeceased by her parents and sister Lois Pavan and has a younger brother, Duthie Welsford (Lorraine), living in Vancouver.
Joan is survived by her husband Keith Sifton Knox, who is 96 years old and a resident of Chinook Care, where his wife would visit him regularly until this past year. They had been married for 68 years. Joan met her future husband, Keith at Cultus Lake, BC; during the summer he was working on the Westcoast. They were wed in Vancouver, September 22, 1950 and moved to Ontario, while her husband finished University. They returned to the west and lived for a short time in Calgary, and then moved to Stettler and Regina before returning to Calgary in 1967
Joan is survived by her three children: Alex Knox (Pamela) of Calgary, Laraine Butt (Gordon) of Abbotsford, BC and Murray (Kym) of Nanton. Also 5 grandchildren: James Seller of Calgary, Alisha Rahn (Miikael) of Lethbridge, Chanel Watson (Tim) of Florida, Teal Knox of Nanton and Lena Knox of Victoria, BC. Joan was also blessed with 4 great-grandchildren, all boys: Jonathon and Nathan Watson of Florida; and Logan and Connor Rahn of Lethbridge. Plus many nieces and nephews!
Thank you to the doctors and nurses of Unit 72 at the Rockyview Hospital that made our Mother’s short stay as comfortable as possible.
A Celebration of Life will be held at SOUTH CALGARY FUNERAL CENTRE, 12700 Macleod Trail South (at Lake Fraser Gate), on Saturday, April 27, 2019 at 11:00 a.m.
