Joyce Ann Gregson (née Yeryk) passed away on Friday, May 22, 2026, in Calgary, Alberta at the age of 87. Joyce was born in 1938 to parents Mike Yeryk and Annie Yeryk (née Zemla) in Spurgrave, Manitoba. After she met and married her husband, Alec, in Winnipeg, they spent a brief time in Lachine, Quebec before eventually settling in Calgary. She was predeceased by Alec in 1977 and her son, Ken, in 2020.
She is survived by her two brothers, Ken and Glenn Yeryk; her two daughters, Catherine Dale and Joanne James; and by her six grandchildren, Geneviève, Rose, and Stephen Dale, Kael Gregson and Aiden and Evelyn James.
After the passing of her husband, Joyce sought out work with the Calgary Board of Education so she could be at home for her children when they weren’t in school. She started as a library assistant at Briar Hill Elementary (the same school as her youngest child, Joanne attended). After some upgrading, she accepted a position as a school secretary at Dover Elementary and after a few years she moved to Collingwood Elementary. She also worked in the library at Crescent Heights Senior High and finished her career as a library assistant at Van Horne High School where she found working with the students there particularly rewarding.
Joyce loved cooking, gardening, and had a true passion for politics and current events. She also dabbled in alternative medicine and nutrition and was dedicated to the practice of meditation. Above all, family meant everything to her, especially her grandchildren. She was a proud mother and grandmother, and the family will surely enjoy sharing stories about her for years to come.
