Judy Davis - a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, friend, caregiver, and the heart of her family - left this world on September 9, 2026. She leaves behind a legacy built on a lifetime of showing up for the people she loved.
Family was her greatest joy. Judy was happiest when everyone was gathered around her table. She hosted every holiday, filling her home with family, laughter, and wonderful food - from traditional Ukrainian dishes to turkey, roasts, pies, baking and whatever delicious meal she could create from the random ingredients she found in her overflowing fridge. Feeding her family was one of the many ways she expressed her love, and she was always prepared with everyone’s favourites at a moment's notice.
A gifted, industrious and endlessly creative woman, Judy sewed clothing, doll clothes, dance outfits, and elaborate Halloween costumes. She created macramé, painted rock animals, and brought imagination and magic to everything she did. As a Brownie leader, she created activities, props and took the children camping, making every adventure memorable. Judy loved to tinker, and could fix anything with time and a roll of duct tape. She was also active and adventurous, enjoying racquetball, skiing, roller-skating, camping, travelling and line dancing (and shopping).
Judy was born to Kathryn and Orest in Willingdon, Alberta. She loved to tell stories of her time growing up, particularly those on the farm and living with her Baba and Guido in the family store. Judy met Bob when she was only fourteen in Edmonton. She had lied about her age, and when Bob picked her up in his friend’s car, he slid in beside her and said, “Move over and I’ll love you forever.” He kept that promise for the rest of their life together. Judy’s capacity for caring began early. At only twenty-two, while pregnant herself, she and Bob fostered three infant triplets for two years. Throughout her life, children remained close to her heart, bringing her so much joy and purpose.
She will be deeply missed by her daughters; Carolyn (Darcy), Ele, and Kathy (Marcel), her grandchildren; Jessica (Kyle), Joshua (Renee), Sam, Maxwell (Kali), Madeline (Thomas), Josilyn (Justin), Connor (Brittany), and Linsay (Jürgen) and her great-grandchildren; Everly, Nathan, Nora, Zola, and Zara, who adored their Baba. Judy was eagerly looking forward to meeting Madeline’s baby, due just days after her passing. She is also survived by her brother Dan, her sister Darlene, and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Robert “Bob” Davis, her firstborn son Daryl, who died as an infant, her brother Bernard, and her dear friend Ethel. We imagine Judy reuniting with all those who left before her, with Maggie and Micah by her side, and all the candy and shopping she could dream of.
Judy was a Christian whose faith was reflected in the way she lived - with compassion, generosity, and unconditional love. People were naturally drawn to her warmth, and she had a way of making everyone feel safe, welcome, and cherished. She listened without judgement and made those around her feel that they mattered. Her children and grandchildren knew they could always turn to her, and she was endlessly proud of each of them.
Her family will remember her most for simply being there - for every holiday, every celebration, every difficult moment, and all the conversations and ordinary moments in between. She gave her family a lifetime of love, and that legacy of love will continue through all the generations she cherished.
Judy will be deeply missed, forever loved, and always remembered.
