Julien Camille Joseph Lamontagne

He was a loving husband, father, grandpa and uncle. Julien is survived by his devoted wife Suzanne, his 7 children; Mathieu (Amal), Theresa (Rob) Matthes, Patrick (Aileen), Natalie (Drahomir) Drapal, Chriss (Brent) Thorn, Dominique( Keegan) and Joseph. He will be deeply missed by his 16 grandchildren, (Justyn, Kamil, Abby, Kaila, Declan, Evan, Zachary, Evan, Joshua, Scarlett, Kaiah, Jaclynn, Brielle, Cedric, Aengus , Alasdair and Austin) as well as numerous brothers and sisters, in-laws and nieces and nephews. He is pre-deceased by his daughter-in-law Heather (Mathieu) Lamontagne.

Julien was born in Chicoutimi, Quebec where he lived for the first 20 years of his life. His dream was to travel all the way to Vancouver by way of hitchhiking. His travels came to an abrupt end when he landed in Calgary during Stampede week, and then met the love of his life, Suzanne at the University of Calgary French Club.

Life soon became busy for the two of them with a quick proposal and a Christmas wedding three months later.

Julien and Suzanne’s life revolved around their deep faith and their commitment to their church and their family. When life got tough, their faith always kept them going.

He embraced every challenge with grace and faced adversity with unwavering belief. Throughout his journey he touched the lives of countless people with his kindness, wisdom and infectious laughter. He was the king of dad jokes.

Days and summers growing up were filled with camping, visits back home to Quebec, family game nights, BBQ’s, Sunday brunches and trips to Vernon. Life was always full of adventures.

They retired out to Vernon in 2005, but as life would have it, they felt they were missing out on their expanding family back home, so they moved back to Calgary in 2015 to be near all the grandchildren, where they enjoyed many more memories, including celebrating their 55th wedding anniversary just last December. Canada Day 2026, the family was fortunate enough to have one last weeklong camping trip where all of Julien’s 7 children were able to be together.

Julien will be deeply missed by his family and friends and all who were lucky enough to know him.

His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, August 12, 2026 at 11 am, at St. Albert the Great Catholic Church (10, Prestwick Dr. SE, Calgary, AB T2Z 4J6) followed by a reception in the parish basement.
