Kathleen Hogan

It is with love and gratitude for a life well lived that we announce the passing of our Mum, Kathy (nee Kinston), who passed peacefully at the age of 93. While our hearts are heavy, we are grateful for the incredible memories and the remarkable life she lived.

Kathy is survived by her 4 children: Robert (Sandy), Butch (Carolyn), Julie (Todd) and Roger (Barb); much loved grandchildren Ken (Samantha), Brent (Amber), Colleen (Ryan), Lauren (Rory), Kelsey (Ryan), Breanne, Katherine, Liam, Sarah & McKinley. Mum was also very fortunate to have 9 wonderful great grandchildren which she loved dearly. Sadly she was predeceased by her grandson Tyler who passed away in 2021.

Kathy was predeceased by her husband Geoffrey Hogan (2004), her second husband Robert Gregory (2012), parents Wilfred and Edith Kinston, sister Barbara and brother Derek. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and their families back in England.

Kathy was born and raised in Stalybridge, England. After completing school, she attended night school classes where she met Geoff in 1949. They were married in 1953. In 1956 they decided to leave all their family behind and immigrate to Canada with their young son Robert to start the next chapter of their lives. They settled in the Toronto area, where she worked as a head secretary. They eventually had two more children before moving to the village of Schomberg, Ontario in 1965 and had one more son. In 1974 a job transfer took Kathy and Geoff to Calgary. While raising her family she was always actively involved with the community and the house was always filled with kids and family friends coming and going. Everyone was treated like family. There was always a mountain of shoes at the front door. She loved to cook, entertain and host parties where there was never a shortage of food, drinks, fun and laughter. Everyone was always welcome and the door was always open. Her legacy lives on in the values she instilled, the memories she created, and the countless lives she enriched.

In December 1975 Kathy entered into a very successful real estate career which she enjoyed for over 20 years. Her love for helping and finding just the right home for clients soared. After her retirement in 1998, Kathy and Geoff travelled extensively throughout Europe and North America, often stopping to visit family and friends in various countries. She continued to travel well into her 80’s enjoying family weddings and warm beach vacations with family.

Over the years Kathy enjoyed being actively involved in the Oakridge Community Association, The Calgary Real Estate Board, Bowcliff Seniors, CARP, The Calgary Lost Chord Club as well as various roles within Grace Presbyterian Church.

The family would like to thank Dr. Michael Geoghegan for the care and kindness he provided over the past 7 years, as well as Dr. S. Naidoo and all the staff of Cambridge Manor (Abington Neighbourhood) for their care, compassion and kindness that they showed our mum over the past five weeks.

A family gathering will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made directly to the charity of the donor’s choice.
