If you asked his family what defined him, they would simply say, “He was always there.” A devoted husband, loving father, provider, and quiet foundation of the family, he expressed his love not through grand gestures, but through his gentle nature, unwavering presence, and countless everyday acts of care.
His life was marked by extraordinary resilience. He lived through war and displacement, resettled across different countries and provinces, and more than once had to leave behind what was familiar and begin again from almost nothing. Yet each new beginning only strengthened his determination to create safety, stability, and opportunity for those he loved. He rarely complained or sought recognition. By example, he taught his family the meaning of courage, humility, responsibility, and perseverance.
His creativity and precision defined his career in tool engineering and mold design, including years as a small-business owner, and carried into the life he created beyond work. Whether designing, building, repairing, or improving something, he approached each task with care and pride, helping create a warm, secure home for his family.
He found happiness in simple moments: tending his gardens, improving the family home, traveling with family, and returning to Asia to visit his ancestral homeland. His children and younger relatives fondly remember the history stories, life lessons, and practical wisdom he shared with patience and thoughtfulness. He also enjoyed playing chess with family, where each game became an opportunity for conversation and companionship.
He remained deeply interested in the world around him. He closely followed local, national, and international news, with a particular interest in current affairs, geopolitics, and economics. He appreciated good food shared with family and friends. Dim sum was a favourite—especially siu mai and taro puffs—and he enjoyed many vegetarian dishes.
Those who knew him will remember his gentle smile, quiet humour, thoughtful advice, and calming presence. He listened more than he spoke, gave more than he received, and loved without expecting anything in return. Even as his health declined, he met each day with quiet resolve and did his best to remain healthy, active, and engaged with life.
He leaves behind his beloved wife, Anna; his children, Jenny and Jason; his younger brother, Ngon, and sister-in-law, Ha; their son, Vi Minh, and his wife; Anna’s siblings and their families; and extended family and dear friends around the world.
He was predeceased by his parents, his older brother, his parents-in-law, and his eldest brother-in-law.
A Visitation will be held at Foster’s Garden Chapel, 3220 - 4 Street N.W., Calgary, AB on Monday, July 27, 2026, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. MT.

Though he is no longer with us, he leaves his family a legacy of boundless love, values to carry from one generation to the next, and an enduring example from which they will draw strength, wisdom, and guidance throughout their lives. His life reminds us that the strongest foundations are built day after day—through patience, quiet sacrifice, and love that remains steadfast through every season of life.
“He was always there.”

(Kent)
