Our beloved mother and grandmother, King Chun Wong passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 26, 2025, at the age of 90 surrounded by her children. Predeceased by her husband of 68 years, Kting Wong (Oct 5, 2024).
A loving wife, mother and grandmother. She will be forever remembered by her children: Jason (Faye) of Calgary, Susan (Jeff) of Calgary, Elizabeth (Gordon) of Lethbridge and Thomas (Lyanne) of Calgary and grandchildren Jolene (Fraser), Jordan, Ryan (Delaney), Erik, Rachael (Christopher), and Candace.
King Chun Wong was born on October 14, 1934 in Canton, Toishan, China. Like much of China at that time, King Chun and her family struggled until she was able to move to Hong Kong. King Chun and Kting were married in 1956. In 1971, at the age of 36, she immigrated to Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada with her husband and their 4 young children to join King Chun’s mother, brother and sister-in-law.
King Chun worked at Rice Sportswear for 20 years and made many lifelong friendships. In 1991 Kting and King Chun moved to Calgary to be closer to their children. For the past 34 years, mom enjoyed remarkably good health. It was only recently that she gave up lawn mowing and snow shovelling. Mom enjoyed her early morning walks with dad, yoga, gardening, sewing and cooking. She was well known for sharing her garden harvest, Chinese soup, sticky rice and turnip cake with her children, grandchildren and friends.
King Chun was very good at making friends and enjoyed an extensive network. In her later years she taught herself to use an Ipad. She spent endless hours using Facetime and talking on the telephone with family and friends from all over the world. Family was everything to King Chun. Family dinners were a regular tradition in the Wong family. She found joy in preparing exquisite meals to celebrate any occasion.
Mom was tireless with her efforts to keep her family together. Her selfless commitment to family was a gift to her children and grandchildren. She will be deeply missed by all whose lives she touched. Mom, we will never forget you. You will always be in our hearts.
Rest in peace with dad, your true love.
The family would like to express their thanks to her dedicated physician Dr. Grace Le & team and King Chun’s special friend Mo.
