It is with great sadness that we share with you the passing of Lajos (Louis) Jakab, beloved husband of Piroska Jakab. He passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on Saturday, February 16, 2019 of complications due to COPD.
Lajos was born in Hungary in 1937 and immigrated to Canada in 1957, where he met his loving wife Piroska. He spent his early working years farming outside of Calgary. When they sold the farm, and moved to Calgary he became a cabinet maker and worked in road construction. He retired in 2001 from Volker Stevin after 16 years of service.
In his retirement, he and Piroska enjoyed gardening, traveling to BC, making wine and Hungarian sausage and spending time with family.
Louis is survived by his wife Piroska; son Alex; grandchildren Kriszti, Jennifer and Lindsay; great-grandchildren Barney, Laura, David, Ziya and Vylet. Louis was predeceased by his parents Lajos and Ann Jakab and his daughters Irene and Patricia.
Our family would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone at the Agape Hospice for making his last weeks so comfortable.
A private celebration of life will be held at a later date.
