She will be lovingly remembered and missed by her two sons, Brian (Karen) of Harvie Heights and their two sons Ryan and Shaun; and Dennis (Sandra) of Edmonton and their three sons Craig (Shelly) and Benjamin and Matthew of Edmonton, Allan (Clare) and Sarah and Megan of Nanaimo, and Neil (Emiko) of Calgary.
Laura is survived by one brother, Walter Purvis, and two sister-in-laws, Betty-Ruth and Dale. She was predeceased by her loving husband Robert (Bob), and brothers Ron and Clarence. She will be dearly missed by her many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Laura was born on September 28, 1920 in Redvers, SK to Darcy and Clara Purvis. She was educated at the Business College and became a bookkeeper. After living in a few locations she settled in Calgary where she met Bob at a dance at the Al-Azhar Temple. They were married on March 6, 1948 and raised their sons in Calgary. They enjoyed trips to Argentina, New Zealand, Australia, Canada, United States and many more locations. She was a devoted stay-at-home mother, with an enthusiasm for card games, especially crib. Along with her love and devotion to her family she enjoyed dancing, reading, traveling, gardening, and sewing. Her and Bob were long-standing members of the Legion.
Memories are what make a person’s life continue. The grandchildren will always remember Grandma’s smile and her cooking. Her great-grandchildren Ben and Matthew remember playing games with her at Christmas and Sarah and Megan remember her as the “ice cream Grandma”.
The passing of our Mother, closes a chapter in the James family story, but leaves so much yet to be written. We will miss you Mom.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions there will be no service at this time.
