Our Mom, Oma, and Ur Oma (great grandmother), Lilo Kazmaier passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 5, 2026 of natural causes at Carewest Sarcee in Calgary, Alberta. Her earthly journey has come to an end and she is now safely in the arms of Jesus her Saviour.
Lilo was born in Neustadt a. d. Weinstrasse, Germany to Margaretta (nee Schuetz) and Ludwig Krakehl. Margaretta died of complications from childbirth. Lilo was then raised by her maternal grandparents in Kreuznach for the first 5 years of her life. Her father visited her as often as he could. When Lilo was 5, Ludwig married Frieda and Lilo returned to Neustadt. Her dear brother Willi was born a few years later.
Lilo married the love of her life, Karl Kazmaier in 1950. Peter was born in 1951 followed by Wilf in 1953. The young family immigrated to Calgary in 1956. Susan was born in 1959.
Lilo maintained close contact with family in Germany by writing letters weekly, but also put down deep roots in their new home. While Karl worked for nearly thirty years for Dome Petroleum in the accounting and financial services department, Lilo was able to devote herself to ministering to her family and maintaining a home. Their family was encouraged by the ministrations of Thornhill Baptist Church, Brentview Baptist Church, and particularly Bethany Chapel where Lilo and Karl, her husband of nearly seventy years, attended since 1975.
Lilo (nee Krakehl) is survived by her children, Peter (Kathryn), Wilfred (Andrea), Susan (Garry); her grandchildren, Michael (Alyssa), Philip (Jennifer), Darren, Daniel (Connie), Alex, Ben (Rachel), Tobias; her great-grandchildren, Adia, Nolen, Abigail, Walter, Noah, and Theo; her cousin by marriage, Brigitte Reis; her nephews and nieces, Klaus (Roswitha) Mueller, Dagmar (Thomas) Keller, Gisela (Michael) Herget, Ulrike (Roger) Krakehl, and Joachim (Barbara) Krakehl.
Lilo was pre-deceased by her husband Karl, her brother Willi Krakehl, her in-laws, Gudrun Krakehl, Johanna (Walfried) Mueller, Traudel (Wolfgang) Lingenfelder, Manfred (Edeltraud) Kazmaier and Horst Kazmaier.
Those who knew Lilo well, remember her as a courageous and selfless woman of quiet, but deep faith. Her profound and unwavering trust in her Lord Jesus Christ was an inspiration and blessing to those closest to her. In the midst of our grief and sorrow at her passing, we are encouraged by the sure hope in Christ that we will see her again and look forward to that day.
As her children, we love Mom and deeply appreciate her love of Dad and of us.
We are deeply grateful to Anne-Marie Spiess for the care she gave Lilo when she needed daily visitations. We are so thankful for the many caregivers and medical personnel that ministered and cared for Mom in her last years.
