It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Lorna Joyce Kowalski (née Peterson), who passed away peacefully, surrounded by family and friends, on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, at Rosedale Hospice in Calgary, Alberta, following a courageous battle with cancer.
Lorna was predeceased by her beloved husband, Ernie A. Kowalski, who passed away two years earlier. She leaves behind her loving siblings, Rick Folk, Barry (Angela) Folk, and Corrine Christensen (Greg), as well as many cherished nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews, all of whom held a special place in her heart.
Born and raised in Calgary, Alberta, Lorna built a life marked by determination, adventure, and devotion to those she loved. On August 1, 1987, she married the love of her life, Ernie, in Fort McMurray, Alberta. Together they shared a wonderful partnership filled with travel, friendship, and countless adventures.
Lorna enjoyed a successful career as a Process Operator with Syncrude Canada Ltd. Following their retirement in 2010, Lorna and Ernie settled in Cochrane, Alberta, where they embraced the beauty of the mountains they so dearly loved. They also spent many happy winters in Florida, creating treasured memories together.
Anyone who knew Lorna knew she possessed remarkable determination and strength of character. Once she set her mind on something, there was little that could alter her course. Her adventurous spirit led her to pursue many interests and accomplishments throughout her life. She was an avid golfer, a dedicated volunteer on numerous committees, a talented artist, and even earned her private pilot’s license. In recent years, pickleball was one of her greatest passions.
Lorna also had a deep love of travel and exploration. Even as her health challenges emerged, she remained determined to live life fully, enjoying a memorable trip to Portugal in September 2025, shortly before learning that her cancer had returned.
Above all, Lorna was a loyal and faithful friend, a devoted family member, and someone who loved fiercely and wholeheartedly. Her warmth, strength, sense of adventure, and unwavering spirit touched the lives of many and left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know her.
Though she is gone from our sight, her memory will live on in the hearts of those she loved and those who loved her.
Lorna Joyce Kowalski, you touched countless lives, and you will be deeply missed by many.
“Those we love don’t go away; they walk beside us every day.” ❤️
