Margaret was born in the County of Middlesex Great Britain, England in 1928, joining her older brother Don Hunt to her parents Nellie and William Hunt. Her teenage years were tough as she always carried a gas mask due to the war. Often, she and her friends had to leave the movie theater due to air raids. Growing up during wartime meant she completed only a secondary school education, yet her determination and spirited nature carried her far. She started her sewing career by working for the war effort, making collars, then uniforms and parachutes. This is what started her love for sewing and different fabrics.
Her brother, Don, was in the Air Force and living in Canada. He was so impressed with Canada that he suggested to his mom, Nellie, and sister, Margaret, to join him. They both set sail in 1948. Shortly after arriving, Margaret met Arthur Bowron, the man who would become her lifelong partner. They married in 1950 and began building their life together.
Marg and Art first settled in Killarney, and as their family grew to five—John, Linda, and Darcy, they moved to their new home in Wildwood where countless cherished family memories were made. Together, they shared a deep love of the outdoors and dreamed of retiring on a small piece of land in Windermere, British Columbia, where they spent many summers, working side by side to bring their vision to life.
Known affectionately as Marg, she was strong willed yet gentle, with a quiet and clever way of getting what she wanted. She had a lifelong passion for gardening, taking immense pride in nurturing beautiful plants and flowers and delighting in the fruits of her labour. Her love of sewing remained constant throughout her life—designing clothing, draperies, and table décor, often spending hours perfecting colors, patterns, and details.
Marg was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She also had a tender heart for animals, and the family home was never without a beloved dog, cat, rabbit, or some other furry companion.
After Arthur’s passing in June 1991, Marg bravely began a new chapter. In 1992, she moved from Calgary to Saanichton, BC where she continued to enjoy gardening, made new friends, and embraced activities such as line dancing and peaceful walks through parks and along ocean beaches—always with a friend or a loyal dog at her side. She also traveled widely, from Hawaii to England and beyond, savouring the adventures that life continued to offer.
She returned to Calgary in 2008 and resided in numerous senior’s facilities. Her last years she lived in St Teresa place under the compassionate and caring staff.
Marg was predeceased by her father and mother, William and Nelly Hunt; and her brother Don Hunt.
Marg is lovingly survived by her children John and Rita Bowron (nee Boschmann), Linda and Bob Martin, Darcy and Joanne Bowron; her grandchildren Brett and Amanda Priddy Bowron, Tim and Ryan Lahaise-Bowron, Jennifer Martin (Andrew Hodge), Denise and Aaron Curtis, Jacquelyn and Mike Macleod, Victoria Martin, Ryan Bowron, Joel Bowron (Alli Farfus), Lauren Bowron (Stuart Matthews); and her great-grandchildren Emma and Jake Bowron, Leo Curtis, Hayden, Lucas, and Brooklyn MacLeod.
Margaret is remembered for her strength, creativity, warmth, and the love she poured into her family and her passions. Her legacy lives on in every stitch she sewed, every garden she tended, and every life she touched.
