As a young girl, Peggy was something of a tomboy and would brag that she often used to beat up the bully boys of Cornerbrook. After her years of beating up the bully boys, Peggy married Robert James Fitzpatrick in 1961.
Peggy & Bob had a happy life together and four children came along to round out the family; Tod, Oscar, Tracy and Debbie.
Bob passed away when he was just 45 years old, after which Peggy moved to Toronto to live with her girls. Sadly, Tracey, would pass away following an epileptic seizure.
Sometime later, Peggy and her son Tod would move to Calgary, settling in near her daughter, Debbie and getting involved at the local community association and with the neighbourhood church, where she spent many happy years helping make lunches for hungry school children and supporting the church’s monthly community dinner.
Peggy was certainly a fighter and was proud to be a cancer survivor and recover from an incident where she was struck by a car while walking along a sidewalk. But her health declined in recent years and she struggled to deal with COPD and her balance. She developed an infection in the summer of 2024 and would spend her final weeks in hospital, where she peacefully passed away surrounded by her children and grandchildren on Wednesday, September 18, 2024.
Peggy is predeceased by her husband Bob, daughter Tracey, siblings; Bill, Edna and Eileen. She is survived by her children; Tod, Oscar and Debbie (Rob), grandchildren; Amanda and Faith, siblings; Karen, Marge, Lou, Harold, Gerry, Roy and Gordon as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
A Memorial Service for Peggy will be held at Crossroads Community Church (912 19 Street N.E.) on Thursday, October 3rd, starting at 2:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, Peggy would prefer donations be made to either Epilepsy Canada at their website https://www.epilepsy.ca/ or the Canadian Diabetes Association at their website https://www.diabetes.ca/.
