As Margo was my mother she was always there to support me, I remember coming home from school every day and running into her arms to pick me up. As a grew older she struggled to pick me up because I kept growing

I was extremely shocked and saddened to learn just today (!) that Margo had passed away. Margo and I met when we were both students in the UBC Teacher Education Program in the fall of 1991. I enjoyed Margo's acute perception and her wry sense of humour. The last time I saw Margo was when she and I went to a John Prine concert - I will be listening to several John Prine CD's and thinking of Margo this weekend. 
My thoughts are with Margo's family, Alain, and her children, Mia and Dominic. I am grateful for having known Margo and having had the gift of her friendship.

I am so saddened by the loss of my friend Margo.  I wanted to pass along my sympathies to her family and some memories I have about Margo. I moved west from Toronto and we met at UBC on the first day of teacher's college. We became instant friends.We started our teaching careers together. She opened up so many new experiences for me as Margo always had a list of things to do: West Coast Trail, skiing, concerts, biking.. any adventure...she wanted to experience it all and I was lucky enough to be with this amazing organizer.  I will always remember the laughs (yeh-boo song, antics with Fred) and her gentle, personal touch in supporting our friendship. Margo inspired me to take action as she always did. Margo,I went back home and time has passed, but  memories of you have made me smile so often. You continue to inspire me.

A message of friendship: 
The day of your memorial service was moving, the room was packed and then some! Clearly you touched a lot of hearts.  Many spoke about you with many wonderful stories. Your family shared their grief. The tears flowed freely for the loss of you my dear friend. As I hugged Mia she said 'Cyndi it will be okay'! She is a beautiful girl.
Everyday I am out in Tuscany I think of you Margo. I miss our spontaneous walks around the neighbourhood to talk and laugh about life. I have the privilege and joy of seeing Dominic often as he enjoys a friendship with Logan. We have some good laughs together. We treat him as a member of the family when he is here. 
I remember how much you loved music and how you gave that to your children, I hear Dominic sing randomly often.  There was always cool music on in the car or at the house. Teaching yourself guitar in your 40's, probably cause Alain wasn't there to play for you anymore! Whatever! So serious but so quick witted, many laughs we shared, smart and driven but life is not always perfect. 
It will be a year very soon that you have left, I will put my sweet peas in the ground and keep the music flowing cause these are 'Margoisms' for me and help me to grieve the loss of a close friend. 
My heart goes out to the Dilger family for every holiday and the coming anniversary. 
I celebrate Alain and the kids as they move through every moment working together to provide new memories and share the past ones for a lifetime.

We are so so sorry to hear about Margo - she lived with my husband Bill and I in Squamish in 92-93, I believe Margot's first year teaching.  She was a wonderful roommate, and a talented first-year teacher.  We sporadically kept in touch, and we went for a lovely walk and dinner just last year, when she was in Vancouver for a conference. We had agreed to maybe meet in Vegas for a girls' weekend.  Alain, our hearts go out to you and your kids.  From how she spoke about your kids, she loved them dearly, and was a dedicated mother. We were shocked and saddened to hear of Margot's passing when we returned to Calgary a few days ago.  Although we haven't seen her for many a year we remember her liveliness and laughter when she was a young girl, and our son Mark, especially, talked of her fondly.  Our heart goes out to you both. I was very sad to hear of Margo's passing and sad again that I didn't know until after her memorial.  I wish I could have been there to lend my support.  My condolences to Margo's family and friends.  My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Margo and I met at HD Cartwright in Grade 1. I remember this pig-tailed, fun, friendly, intelligent girl, living in the big house on Dalmany Hill. I remember meeting all of her family, playing in her basement, walking up beyond her house to the big hills to jump over cow patties along with Annette, Jill, Kim, Kathy, Cathy, Cheryl and others. 
Upon one of our first meetings, I remember Margo asking me my name (to which I answered, Stephanie) and then in her confident, clear voice she asked, rightly clarifying: "Is your name spelled with an 'f' or a 'ph' ?  

You could always count on Margo to get the answers, share herself, her kindness, her wit; and she was always thinking of others.  I remember sleepovers with the 'gang', the Pom Pom Pritchard Club at Dalhouise Elementary School, and many moments of laughter, fun and friendship.

Although I moved away to Victoria, BC in grade 5 (1979), we stayed in touch year after year, sharing what was happening in our lives, as though we had never really parted!  I could always count on Margo to stay in touch with me...at first writing letters, and then eventually as we grew up, got married and had a family, we would always stay connected with Christmas Cards, photos and emails. The last time I actually got to be with Margo was when Mia was born - her mama pride was so big it was bursting!  Then along came little Dominic (not so little anymore), and now she had her 'girl' and her 'boy'.  I would look forward to receiving photos every year and getting caught up. 

Although we did not see each other for so many years, I always felt connected, grateful and so appreciative of having Margo in my life.

My sincere thoughts and love are extended to ALL who knew Margo. To her family, and Alain, and to her beloved Mia and Dominic - your Mom was an angel on earth, and she will continue to be an angel watching over you, forever and always. She is in your hearts.

Dilger family, I am so shocked to hear about Margo's passing. I knew her as we were completing our master's degrees at the same time and were classmates and were colleagues at the university. Our community has suffered a great loss. You are in my thoughts at this difficult time. Know that Margo made a great and wonderful impact on her classmates and colleagues.

I worked with Margo for a number of years and it was impossible not to consider her a friend. She shared her experience and knowledge freely.  I have fond memories of developing a program with her that has gone on to be very successful. Because of her, many adult learners have had positive learning experiences that will enrich their personal and professional lives. 

She was funny and kind and thoughtful and generous. In the summer I looked forward to vegetables from her garden which she happily shared. She remembered little things about people and made everyone feel welcome. 

Margo liked her job in Continuing Education at the U of C and she loved sharing stories about her children. She was very proud of you. 

I will miss Margo dearly. May you take comfort in knowing she was loved and respected by her University of Calgary colleagues.

My heart is filled with great sadness by the news of your beloved Margo's passing.  I am so very sorry for your great loss.  No words adequate enough, but my heart is full of love and tears grieving with you all.  

When I think of Margo, I think of the times I visited with her in your home and the time when Margo and her friend came to visit us in our home in Japan.  I remember her kindness.  Back then, I was not as confident and my English was very poor, but Margo ALWAYS took time to listen and made sure I was enjoying myself in your home.  As I started College in Three Hills, Margo gave me one of her dictionaries knowing that I will need one in college.  I still have it.  My daughter uses it often and I have told her about this kind friend, Margo as her name is written on the inside cover.  

It was very special that she has taken the time to come visit my family in Japan on her travels.  I believe it was in the late 80's.  I remember taking a trip to Hiroshima.  I remember this time very fondly.  Though our paths did not cross as often as I would have liked, I always considered her to be a friend.   A very kind, gracious friend. 

I am so very sorry for your great loss.  My heart is filled with so much sadness.  As you remember Margo, I pray that you will be comforted in the memories revisited.  May she rest in peace.

At the celebration of Margo's life it was wonderful to learn about the full and purposeful life she had. Thank you for sharing. I was not able to make the celebration of her life today. I was deeply saddened to hear of her passing and will remember her fondly as Margo with the dry dry dry sense of humour who always had time to run home for a warm coat for an underdressed soccer mum and who worshipped her kids. To all the Dilgers, Margo's friends, and Mia and Dominic especially, I am so sorry for your loss.

Margo and I have known each other since meeting in home room class (Mr. Margach's class) in grade seven at H.D. Cartwright. The threads of our friendship have been entwined since, sometimes tightly, sometimes loosely, but always together. Not too long ago, she reminded me what she got me for secret Santa that year in homeroom (about 34 years ago): a mini stapler with mini staples! That's how I think of Margo – kind, sweet and thoughtful. Mini-staplers are very useful. Coming out of the hospital after I was pretty sick two years ago, she came by the house with soup made from veggies from her garden; again, a kind act (and tasty soup too).

Most of all, I will miss the fun we had together over the years. In both conversation and text-message, I will especially miss her innovative greetings (Hey Al, Big Al!, Ali, Aloysius!) and her action/sound effect combinations (“hipcheck!” – thump, FB post “Drat!”, and shoulder-punch-“Hah!”).

In terms of her world, I know only one thing for sure – that is her love for both of you, Mia and Dominic. No matter what event we were at, our talks always included a fond discussion about what you both were up to and how you were doing. Margo and I regularly e-mailed each other, and often she sent me photo- and video-updates about you (including a cake Mia you made for your mum's birthday and some crazy game Dominic you were playing with her in the living room). Your mum loved you truly. I am so sorry for your loss.

I will miss her. My condolences to you all. To Margo, peace.

I was very saddened to hear of Margo's passing. Having lost my mother less than a year ago, I know full well the grief and sadness you are feeling right now.
I know that the thoughts are no doubt overwhelming that nothing ever will quite be the same. That certainly is true, however, soon you will have the memory of your Margo that will live on in your heart and mind as well as in the hearts and minds of all of us who knew and loved her.
Living close to Margo for many years, and our families growing up together on Dalmeny Hill, we all saw each other grow and blossom. I was fortunate enough to have spent some wonderful time recently with Margo and enjoyed a good times reminiscing of the old days.

I had the distinct pleasure of working with Margo at MRC years ago. She was an inspiration in both her personal and professional life and exuded an infectious zest for life and adventure. 
Margo sparked in me a curiosity and love of travel which lead me to be living here in the UK for the past 13 years. I was particularly touched when she made a point of getting in contact while here visiting her sister who was studying at Cambridge.

Words cannot adequately express my profound sadness at the loss of my dear friend, Margo. Our friendship dates back to Grade 5 and while many fun times were had along the way, her deepest joy in life centered around her beloved children, Mia and Dominic. My family and I extend our deepest condolences to the Dilger family, Alain, Mia and Dominic. Mig, you will be forever missed by the many people who were lucky enough to know you.

I met Margo when I was in grade 3. I remember countless summer mornings walking up Dalmeny Hill to call on Margo at her house, picking up various good friends along the way. First it was skipping, hide and seek, riding bikes (Margo's was always red), sleepovers, board games, puzzles, and A&W rootbears. Next was track and field practice, chasing the boys, listening to music in Margo's basement, sneaking into her brothers' house parties for a first sip of beer, and roller skating. Followed by rides in the orange VW van with the mammoth gear shift, Bulldogs football games (I don't think that Margo missed one), and, of course, more boy chasing. And always a special birthday on Valentine's Day. Over the subsequent years, different lives in different places, on different paths – but Margo insisted, with her usual persistence, that everyone stay in touch. She was the bond that kept us all together. 
Margo always took care of me from the first day we met. I wish I would have taken better care of here in these last few years. To my friends – we are hurting so badly, but we must stay strong and help each other. To Margo's family – especially Mia and Dominic – I am so very sorry for the loss of an amazing daughter, sister, aunt, and mother. To Margo – I miss you and I love you. I hope you find peace and happiness where you are.

I first met Margo when we were 15  years old. During our high school years she quickly became and remained one of my dearest friends. Her compassion for others, ability to include everyone, and insightful nature were characteristics that made her a much loved and treasured friend. Mia and Dominic, you were always an important part of every conversation we every had and your mom loved you deeply. My deepest condolences to all the Dilger family, other relatives, and friends. May you find peace in your memories of the daughter, sister and friend who blessed us with her grace, intelligence, and integrity.

Margo and i met 40 years ago in Grade 1 in H.D. Cartright School. Since that first day we quickly formed the Dalmeny Hill 'Gang': Margo, Gillian Clarke, Alfred Jay, Bobby Brown, Mark Burgler, Scott Dyck, Kim Seville, Michael Guise, Cathy & William Pallister, John Bailey, and myself. Others too numerous to mention subsequently joined the group and we went through the next 40 years accumulating friends, experiences, stories, spouses, and children. Many of us went in different directions around the world. Margo was the anchor that kept us informed of what was going on in Cowtown through her Christmas letters, facebook postings, and emails. And she was often in the welcoming party when we returned back permanently or for visits - she displayed true Calgarian hospitality. In my first visit back to Calgary in five years last summer, a number of really close friends went out for Stampede drinks and had such a good time that Margo posted a photo from that night of David Brown, Annette Palmer, herself and myself stating "No friends like old friends! My sides are hurting here (from laughing)" …Now my sides are hurting from the pain of this tragic loss. It's the last time I saw and spoke to her - and that is how i will remember her joy, her good humor, her laughter, her kindness, and her friendship. My condolences to all, Martin

I met Margo in high school and we later went through the B.Comm program together.  Margo always had something thoughtful to say, or funny to offer. I remember during high school after a party when some of us were at her house playing with marionettes and laughing hysterically at our story lines. I also remember many days at Scurfield Hall. Margo was deep without being pretentious, and funny while always caring. An intelligent and sweet woman.

To Mia and Dominic:  your mother touched many people's lives.  You should feel proud to have some of her spirit living within you.  My deepest condolences to all of Margo's family.

Margo and I first met in grade 7 at HD Cartwright. We were friends throughout junior high and high school but drifted apart as our paths took separate routes. I was fortunate enough to reconnect with her and the other girls, who I always considered friends, at the 20 year reunion. Margo was always the one who worked to keep us all connected and be part of each other's lives. For the last 14 years I worked at HDC and was reminded daily of the great times that the group of us had there. Although we were not in touch lately I know how much Margo loved Mia and Dominic. We are all heartbroken by this tragic loss. My deepest condolences to Margo's family and most especially to Mia and Dominic.

To all of the Dilger family....we are very deeply saddened by Margo's death. It is so hard to accept that she is no longer with us.  Please know we are thinking of all of you and grieve with you. Margo was someone I appreciated. Her sense of humour was brilliant, I laughed every time we were together. She was a smart quick witted girl and I enjoyed all moments spent with her.  I truly will miss her.  Mia and Dominic will be a constant reminder of how wonderful Margo was!

I didn't know Margo very well, but we were in high school together. I can remember her as a level-headed, intelligent woman, who would succeed in anything that she goes after. It saddens me that she left this world so soon. Prayers for her two precious daughters. RIP Margo.

I just can't believe this terrible news. I was fortunate to have worked with Margo in the early part of my career at Mount Royal College. She taught me so much about how to think strategically. She worked with the best of intentions and was always generous in sharing her tips and tricks. I learned so much from her and think of her often even after all of these years. Since we stopped working together, we have still made the effort to see each other a couple times a year. At those times, she always spoke so proudly of Mia and Dominic. I'm so sorry for your loss and may her soul rest in peace.

I grew up in Dalhousie down the street from Margo and remember her well as she was a close friend of my sister Kim and was always welcome at our home. I am very sorry to hear of this great loss. I hope you will always have many wonderful and happy memories.

Today my heart breaks. Margo has been an inspiration to me ever since we worked together at Mount Royal College. My fondest memory of Margo is a large office meeting where we were to pick a person to say something about that others would not know. This has stuck with me and will stick with me for my life when Margo said about me... "Even though her kids don't live with her... Cindy is the best mom I have ever known. I hope I can be half the mom." When she had her children, I knew she was going to be more than half that mom. I am so sorry for you her family. What an amazing person. I am fortunate to have worked with Margo at the University of Calgary for the past seven years, and feel profoundly saddened by the loss of a member of our “work family”.  Margo was not just a colleague, but a wonderful friend and mentor I've learned so much from.   She was one of the smartest and kindest people I've known, and I will miss her clever sense of humour and our talks on parenting over coffee breaks. 

Dominic and Mia, your mom was so proud of you and she often shared stories about you with us in the office.  You and the whole Dilger family are in my thoughts and prayers.

Ute, Walter, Mia, Dominic and the rest of the Dilger family:  words certainly cannot express my profound sadness at losing Margo.  Please know how much I treasured our almost 40 year friendship and my many, many memories including eating rice krispies with cocoa and milk, at your kitchen table with the red checked tablecloth, playing in the sandbox making sand faces, running around your HUGE back yard and so much more.  Margo was kind, serious, thoughtful, so smart and one of the funniest people I know.  When she smiled, her whole face lit up.  My sincere condolences.  I will miss you dear friend.

I've known Margo since school days and had reconnected as adults  as our kids went to school together. She was a kind person with fantastic wit that will be missed greatly.

Dominic, I spelled your name wrong.  Sorry about that.  I remember your mom showing me this hilarious video of her hurtling a ball at you while you dodged it.  It looked like a fun evening.  I have a lot of friends who didn't know her who have commented on my Facebook page that they are really going to miss her sense of humour.  The ripples of your mom's life and the effects she has had on others will continue to grow and spread and amaze you.  I am sorry for this which will likely be the hardest time of your life.  God bless you, Dominic, and your sister too.

I met Margo many years ago in South East Asia when she was on Jill and Margo's excellent adventure..We hit it off great..Same love for life and learning and adventure as I..We had so much fun in Thialand,Malasysia and Indonesia,that we met up twice in Australia... First the girls smuggled me on their Contiki boat to an Island ...It is easier to sneek onto an island than to get off it...Then  we met up and travelled to Tasmania..Such a fun time..We rented a car..None of us wanted to drive as it was on the opposite side of the road....so within one hour we picked up this really cute looking hitch hiker ..we thought he was safe as he had a fishing rod..lWe made him drive us around...It was a great trip.. I was lucky to keep in touch with Margo when we returned to Canada and visited her both in Calgary and then at her mom and dad's cabin when I got to meet her children...she so loved being a mom.. I am so sorry for your loss.. I will never forget your mom and laughing and laughing with her.....I have many pictures of  our adventure if you would ever want them... Jill Snell knows how to get ahold of me..,

I am shocked and so sad right now to hear of Margo's passing. We were friends in high school who reconnected through school reunions and working at the University of Calgary, including a fun conference to Halifax in 2010. I have been wanting to connect with her lately to go for lunch again and I don't want this news to be true as I sit her with tears in my eyes. Margo was such a wonderful person who spoke so highly of her children that I know she will be missed by many. My condolences to her family.

Margo was my friend and neighbor.  I have so many stories to share, but my favorite memories of Margo will be those of her sitting across from me at Folk Club.  Happy, content and singing along with her beautiful voice.  I will miss you my friend.

I have great memories of Margo from school and her wonderful laughter! My condolences to the family.

Our office is so saddened by this loss of life. Margo was an incredibly kind, intelligent, witty and beautiful spirit; she will be greatly missed by all. She was always willing to lend a helping hand, and was a great healer when I was going through a loss of my own. Rest in Peace, Margo.

We are so sorry to hear the news. Over the last few years, we had the pleasure of playing on Dominic's hockey team. We didn't get many opportunities to get to know Margo very well; however, we do remember her excitement leading up to her Hawaii vacation with Mia and Dominic this past Spring. Mia and Dominique, I knew your mom in high school in Calgary and didn't see her for about 25 years.  When I met your mom for a drink in Vancouver in May 2012 she spent the entire time telling me stories about both of you.  She sure was proud of you both and she sure loved you heaps and loads.  Margo was one of the funniest, kindest, smartest people I ever met.  I will miss her.  I know that your hearts are broken right now, but know this: your mother's DNA is in you and you will carry her your whole lives.  God bless you and your grandparents, your aunts and uncles and your cousins.  I am really sorry about this tragic loss.

I only met Margo recently, but she was such a kind person and she will be so missed by all who knew her. She always had a funny story to tell and was just so easy to get along with.

When we met, we really were little girls in pigtails. We became fast friends, over swings, sandboxes and skipping ropes, and grew up, listening to music and making tapes in the basement, trading bikes and slam books for boys, cars, concerts and more with so many others. Mig was the magnet that drew us all in. The memories we have of her will be gratefully cherished and her friendship will be deeply missed by us all. My heartfelt sympathy to the whole family. May you find some solace in the treasured memories of such a wonderful girl.

I have so many super memories of Margo from our time in High School & University to out grand adventure in South East Asia & Australia to her last visit to Fernie to see us.  She always had a way of making time together timeless & was always able to make us laugh.  She will be missed & may she finally have found some peace.
