Mario was born to Lau Kwok Hung and Mok Wing Man on March 2, 1945 in Hong Kong. He ventured to Canada in 1965 where he completed his degree at the University of Manitoba and eventually settled in Calgary, Alberta. Mr. Lau thrived in sales and went on to enter the world of real estate where he founded his own development and home building companies.
His family will remember him as a very giving man. He had a heart of gold and wore his heart on his sleeve. He was always generous and endeavored to assist anyone in any way possible. Mario made it a priority to provide for his family while enjoying the life he worked hard for.
Mario is lovingly remembered by his wife of 36 years, Phyllis P. Lau; son Ben Lau (Jiyoung Lee) and granddaughter Nuri Lau; daughter Bonnie Lau (Troy Cavanagh) and grandsons Jack Cavanagh, Phineas Cavanagh, Miles Cavanagh; daughter Angel Lau (Roy Stroeher) and grandchildren Nicholas Lau-Stroeher, Joseph Lau-Stroeher, Drea Lau-Stroeher, Ethan Lau-Stroeher; daughter Faith Bruce (Greg Bruce) and granddaughters Quynn Bruce, Quyll Bruce. Mario is also remembered by his many loving brothers, sisters, cousins, nephews, and nieces.
A Funeral Service will be held at Foster’s Garden Chapel, 3220 – 4 Street N.W., Calgary (across from Queen’s Park Cemetery) on Friday, October 7, 2022 at 10:00 a.m.
Those wishing to pay their respects may also do so at a visitation Blanket and Sand Ceremony held at Foster’s Garden Chapel on Thursday, October 6, 2022 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Funeral flowers may be sent through Thalea Flowers. Memorial donations may be made directly to the family.
