Born in Rozwaz, Poland in 1926, Mary grew up poor and worked hard in difficult years, especially during war time. Over the years she resided and worked in Poland, Ukraine, Belgium and Germany. After marrying John Fizor, they relocated to Alberta, Canada, where she raised her four children, eventually settling in Calgary, Alberta.
Mary was multi-talented in many areas which included sewing, knitting and needlepoint. She kept a garden, canned many fruits and absolutely loved flowers. Being of Polish-Ukrainian decent, Mary was especially talented in preparing cultural dishes such as perogies, cabbage rolls, borsch and baking delicious bread and buns.
Mary could be firm in her convictions but had a compassionate heart. She was kind to animals and was known to donate monetary gifts and clothing back to struggling family members in the Ukraine. She was also very generous to her children on special occasions.
It was amazing that Mary thought she had no accomplishments in her life until they were pointed out to her.
During her last eight years, Mary displayed amazing strength and resilience despite the immense challenges she endured after suffering through strokes and ongoing medical conditions. Unfortunately, she succumbed to the third stroke.
Mary is sadly missed and survived by her four children, Nick, Mike, Bill and Anne; five grandchildren, Shelley, Nikki, Duane, Steve and Angie; she was also blessed with great-grandchildren. Mary is predeceased by her husband John Fizor.
Rest in peace now, Mom!
We love you!
