Matilda Elizabeth Pinter

Matilda Elizabeth Pinter passed away quietly on Saturday, May 8, 2021 at the University of Alberta Hospital in Edmonton, Alberta. She was born in Etes, Hungary on February 9, 1926 and came with her mother and brother to Drumheller, Alberta at the age of 13. Matilda married coal miner, Joe Pinter, and moved to a farm near Warburg, Alberta. After their family expanded they moved to Calgary. Matilda had served as a nurse’s aide in Drumheller. In Calgary she did house cleaning and apprenticed with Joe to become a barber.

Together they made several trips to Hungary and throughout North America. She enjoyed her family life; her children and grandchildren, sewing, gardening and dancing. She also enjoyed praying and singing at Hungarian Church.

Matilda is survived by her daughters Anne Christiansen of Calgary, Matilda Fletcher of St. Albert, Judy (Richard) Millie of Edmonton, and Marilyn Pinter of Red Deer, as well as her sister-in-law Mary Martin of Edmonton. Her loving grandchildren are Peter (Kari) Christiansen, Nikki (Neil) Robins, Allissa (Michael) Fletcher, Stewart Millie, Douglas (Courtney) Millie, Candace (Kyle) Lemieux, and Jenny (Trevor) Anderson. Her great-grandchildren are Stephanie, Samantha, Dylan, Brett, Trevor, Aidan, Connor, Allison, Brooklyn, Jade, Dylan, Ethan and Emily. Her great-great-grandchildren are Riley, Hunter and Malia. She will be remembered by many nieces, nephews, godchildren, neighbors and friends.
