Biography:
Matthew was born in Kamloops BC on August 13, 1996. At 3 years old, the family moved to Calgary where he stayed for the rest of his years. His love of singing was evident from a young age as he belted out songs he liked. Growing up he was naturally athletic, playing several sports and football in high school. A big guy who played football but was also in the school choir was somewhat of an anomaly but he didn’t care what others thought.
Many family memories were made with road trips, camping, holidays, visits to relatives in BC and Saskatchewan. It was his grandfather Mike who took the boys fishing, and it became the thing to do when we would visit. Fishing only became a passion after high school when he needed an outlet for his angst at the time. A whole new world opened up then as he began to understand the water, the lake or river bottoms and the things that would tempt a fish to bite. Doing this he made some great friendships (he talked to everyone he met!), and through amazing circumstances also did several summers of guiding which he absolutely loved.
Our Matthew was taken way too young, far too soon and leaves a giant hole in the lives of those who knew him.
We are proud of our son, his strengths and abilities, his love of friends and family, and kindness to strangers. His big voice, his big laugh and especially those big hugs were always followed by an “I love you”. His network of friends we never met and the community of people who have rallied around us, sent condolences, flowers and support in various forms, has humbled us his grieving family. Thank you.
