May was born in Toisan, Guangdong, China on September 27, 1936. She immigrated in 1958 to join her future husband Gordon in Calgary where they married in 1959. Soon after, they had four children within as many years. She was a devoted Mom who worked hard to raise a beautiful family while always putting their needs above hers. She made it her mission to improve the lives of others including the sponsorship of many family members from China.
No matter how big or small the task, May was exceptionally dedicated to her work and always put in 100 percent. She took on more than any single person should be able to handle, and did so with grace. May worked many different jobs, the last being in laundry at Foothills Hospital where she received an award for five years without missing a day of work. With typical humility, she wondered “why all the fuss?”
Aside from being a hard worker, May was a passionate cook, seamstress, knitter, gardener and football fan. When she wasn’t filling her home with warmth and kindness, she could be found outside walking the Bow or in her kitchen whipping up apple pies and butter tarts. Her shining presence will be forever missed.
May is lovingly remembered and survived by her devoted husband of over 63 years, Gordon, her children; Lily DeClavasio (Lucio), Howard Mah (Lori Lee), Ernie Mah, Diana Dumoulin (Sean) and seven grandchildren; Lucas (Jill), Rachel, Olivia DeClavasio, Kendra Mah, Justin (Melanie), Nicki, Evan Dumoulin. May is also survived by four sisters and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by; her father Man Chee, mother Tai Ho, her brother and older sister.
