Muriel passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 13, 2024 in Calgary, Alberta but not before reaching a monumental milestone of 100 years old. She is predeceased by her husband, Cyril Guriel. Muriel leaves her memory to her 3 children Ken (Sue) Guriel, Diana (Terry) Donaleshen and Nadine (Larry) Lafreniere; grandchildren, Nicholas and Jaime Guriel, Michael (Katie) and David (Rosie) Donaleshen, and Daniel (Maryana) Lafreniere and great grandchildren Nora, Isla and Luka Donaleshen. Muriel is survived by her sisters Patricia and Lenora, brother George, sister in law Vilma Welsh and numerous nieces and nephews.
Muriel is a native Calgarian born and raised on 5th Avenue SW with 7 brothers and 4 sisters. She attended Henderson Secretarial School working for her fathers plumbing company. Muriel sang in many church choirs, plays and an opera. She was a member of the IODE for over 60 years, receiving the Queens Medal for long service. Muriel and Cy joined Confederation Park Seniors in 1986 where she volunteered over 25 years. Muriel and Cy loved to go camping, cruising, visiting Europe and relaxing on the beach in Hawaii.
