With great sadness, our family announces the passing of Nick Trenke at 86 years of age on April 12, 2022. He died suddenly at his home in the country, the place where he felt most at peace. Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 58 years, Gudrun, and his children Ralph (Genevieve), Claudia, and Mark (Marla). He will be fondly remembered by his grandchildren Curtis, Grace, Easton, Kasandra, Julien, and Marielle, who loved their Opa dearly. Nick is survived by his sister Herta (Heinz) Winkler and cousin Gerald (Irmi) Losert, both of Austria.
Nick was born in Salzburg, Austria, and immigrated to Toronto, Canada, on September 3, 1964. Always fascinated by the western lifestyle and the beauty of the Rocky Mountains, Nick moved his family west to Calgary and established his welding business, Arctec Alloys Limited, in 1968. His hard work, integrity and vision for his business led to great success and took him to many parts of Canada. He treasured the many friendships he created in his business and personal life. Nick was a member of the Confrérie de la Chaîne des Rôtisseurs, where he enjoyed sharing fine food and wine with friends.
Nick will be fondly remembered by his family, friends, and associates for his passion for business, endless generosity, ability to connect with people from all aspects of his life, and his enjoyment of nature and the outdoors.
A Memorial Service will be held on May 5, 2022 at 2:00 pm at Foster’s Garden Chapel Funeral Home, 3220 4th Street NW, Calgary. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
If friends so desire, memorial tributes in Nick’s honour may be made to support the sleep research program at the University of Calgary Cumming School of Medicine online at https://engage.ucalgary.ca/nicktrenke or to the Cochrane Humane Society at www.cochranehumane.ca.
Our family would like to express heartfelt thanks to the emergency responders, and the staff at Foothills Medical Centre, Dr. Vernon Fanning Centre, and Helios Wellness Centre for their care and compassion.
“Your memory is a keepsake
With which we will never part
Today, tomorrow, our whole lives through
We will always love and remember you.”
Your Loving Family
