Lou was born in Manitoba on June 12, 1932, and, although she lived in SK (Regina, Warman) for the majority of her adult life, she remained an avid Winnipeg Blue Bombers fan until the end, teasing every Rider fan in her vicinity.
She was a devoted Mom to her four children Karma Zimmer (Jeff), Kara Cote (Dean), Karleen Yuzdepski (Lyle), and Kris Matheson (Margaret), and Grandma Lou to 11 grandchildren, and 3 great grandchildren (and counting).
Mom will be remembered for her sense of humour, which she kept until the very end, for her love and pride in her family, for being a “Tough Cookie” in so many ways, and for devoting her working years to being an amazing and dedicated nurse. Mom had a green thumb able to bring any stick back to life, always had a house full of healthy plants, and a deck full of beautiful flowers for neighbours to envy and admire. She spent many years knitting blankets for all of her kids, grandchildren, and for those in need, leaving us with treasured keepsakes. Mom/Lou never met a card game she didn’t like, took pride in her card playing skills, and took playing cards very seriously. She was also an avid news watcher and sports fan who loved talking sports, and was eager to expand her sports knowledge from those willing to teach her. Her sense of humour, her life of the party personality, and her genuine interest, concern and caring for those around her have left a deep hole in our lives. We are grateful for all the joy she brought to our lives, the many warm and funny memories she left behind, the lessons in tenacity her life exemplified, the love she made us feel, everyday, and the encouragement and words of wisdom she shared. We were truly blessed to have had Mom/Grandma Lou with us, as an active part of our lives, until she was 91-1/2 years (to the day!).
We love you and miss you Mom/Grandma Lou XO!
