She was feisty and fun, practical and pragmatic, and, above all, loyal and loving. She will be fondly remembered by all who knew her.
Pam grew up on the family farm that was established by her father and mother, immigrants from Orkney, Scotland. Her upbringing was characterized by hard work and close family ties, and shaped her into the dedicated wife and mother she became. Pam worked as a teacher in a one-room country schoolhouse in the Eckville area until she married Jack on July 16, 1954. She remained a teacher all her life, in practice if not in fact, passing on a wealth of skills, knowledge, and intrinsic values to her children and grandchildren.
Pam was predeceased by her parents, James and Margaret Houston of Eckville, Alberta; as well as her brothers Newton, Tommy and Morris Houston of Calgary. In addition to her immediate family, Pam is survived by her brothers Bill and his wife Lorraine Houston; Ivan and his wife Trudy Houston; Newton’s wife Marg Houston; and Tommy’s wife Ruby Houston.
Pam is especially missed by her husband Jack; and her children, Jacki and Wayne Sampson, Reg and Stacy Wild, and Rod and Heidi Wild; as well as her eight grandchildren and two great-granddaughters.
The family would like to thank the wonderful and compassionate staff at Newport Harbour Care Centre, who treated her like one of their own.
A Memorial Service will be held at Foster’s Garden Chapel, 3220 – 4th Street NW, Calgary, Alberta (across from Queen’s Park Cemetery), on Sunday, October 21, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Calgary.
Expressions of sympathy may be forwarded to the family via the website www.fostersgardenchapel.ca
