Patricia Louise Holloway of Calgary, Alberta, was born August 23, 1974, in Edmonton, Alberta. She passed away at the age of 50, surrounded by family on May 17, 2025, after a brief but brave battle with cancer. Left to cherish Pati’s memory are her loving husband Kyle Ripley; beloved daughter Alena Ripley; sister Joanne and brother in law Robb; nieces and nephew Kael and Isabel; parents Linda McLaren and Larry and Barbara Holloway; mother in law Edna Ripley; sister in law Charlene Ripley, her loyal and bouncy Bernese Mountain Dog, Wesley; and many dear friends and relatives.
Gratitude is extended to all who have reached out to them during this difficult time, and to the medical staff at the Foothills Medical Centre for their kind and compassionate care.
A Celebration of Pati’s life will be held in early July, where we will gather to honor her memory, share stories, and hold close the love she gifted us all. In lieu of flowers or gifts, donations can be made in Pati’s name to AARCS through their website at https://aarcs.ca/donate/, where she volunteered many hours helping lost, rejected or hurt pets be ready to find their forever homes, or to the Bernese Mountain Dog Club Of Canada where Pati recently volunteered to support BMD’s, Pati would appreciate even the smallest of donations. Donations can be made by e-transfer to [email protected].
The family would like to share the following in memory of Pati:
Pati gently left this world in the early evening of May 17, surrounded by love, while holding hands with family. Her passing was peaceful, but the ache of her absence is immeasurable. In grief, we find comfort in remembering the light she brought into our lives—the joy, the laughter, and the boundless kindness that made her one of the most luminous souls to ever grace this world.
Pati’s life was one of deep love and quiet strength. She found joy in the simplest moments: a warm bed on a cold night, feeding birds (and squirrels—because “really, they deserve a meal too”), petting dogs, cooking meals that brought people together, and walking labyrinths in contemplation. She poured love into her family, into the pets she adored—especially Wesley—and into everything she touched. She cherished the outdoors; gardening, hiking in the mountains, kayaking and canoeing, taking her blue FJ Cruiser aptly named Pinkie Pie on adventures, and reveling in the rhythm of the rain (which usually started whenever she went camping). She sought joy in every moment, embraced spirituality without pretense, and embodied selflessness in ways too vast to measure. Pati found beauty in the smallest things—in the hush of a snowfall, walking in the crunchy fall leaves, the striking beauty of hoarfrost. She taught us to pause, to feel, to love fully.
She carried a quiet wisdom–when Alena was born, she created a work from home (before it was a thing) niche market in the landscape consulting industry, enabling her to be a stay-at-home mom, while continuing her professional career. She ran this business successfully for 21 years while building a home for her family. Pati was a strategic thinker, a guiding light, and a fierce advocate for fairness and kindness. She had an unwavering determination–even finding strength to stand up in her last days when the medical professionals thought she could not. She continued to listen and participate in conversations, even when words failed her.
Above all, Pati’s heart was rooted in family. She was a devoted partner to Kyle for 25 years and a loving mother to their daughter Alena. She shared a special bond with her sister Joanne and her love for her niece and nephew was as deep as that of a mother. She found joy in the traditions, games, and laughter they all shared. She brought family together with incredible food, singing and dancing in the kitchen while she cooked. She was a loyal and generous daughter, connecting and making events special. To those who knew her, she was a steady presence, a giver, a creator of warmth—a beacon of love. A No-Such-Thing-As-Bad-Weather person, a seeker of beauty in the everyday, Pati had a soul filled with music, joy and laughter.
Pati’s legacy will forever live on in the lives she touched. We will see her in every act of kindness, every shared meal, every board game, every solstice bird feeder. In every whisper of “You Got This” when courage is needed, in every moment of laughter, in every mountain trail, in the warmth of family gathered together. Her light will never fade—it will continue to shine through the love she gave so freely.
Thank you, Pati, for everything—for your generosity, your heart, your wisdom, and your radiant light. You will never be forgotten, your presence doesn’t end with your passing—it lives on in each of us.
As Gord Downie sang,
“You can hear her whispered prayer…
The same wind that moves her hair…
Oh, nothing's changed anyway”
and for Pati we live on, inspired by her light
