Patrick was born in Beauharnois, Quebec and spent his four first years there surrounded by family. He moved to Calgary with Mom and Dad and baby sister Shawntal in Nov 1997. It didn't take a long time before he started to make friends even though his English was virtually non-existent. The language barrier did not stop Pat from making connections and although unable to speak it, he understood everything. Patrick was a man of few possessions but what he did have was a huge heart and he could not hurt a fly. Who could forget that infectious grin? He would be there for anyone who needed help and had an amazing fondness for animals. He just loved the thought of hopping into his truck with a dog riding shotgun and heading wherever the wind took him which was usually towards the mountains. Patrick was a brilliant kid who, in his younger years had a unique ability to find himself in funny situations. As a young lad, he enjoyed volunteering at the Inn from the Cold. At age 17, he spent six months in Halifax volunteering with (Katimavik). When Patrick returned, he started working as an apprentice plumber, the profession of his Grandfather that Pat loved and thrived in. Because of his name, no one knew he spoke French. He would be on the various construction sites listening to the many French workers and suddenly would start talking to them in French, and of course became friends with them. He was famous for leaving his deodorant lying around all over the place (truck - jeep - coat - bedroom – living room).
Patrick will be remembered for his outgoing ways, his mischievous smile and his love for outside activities like fishing, skiing, hockey, golf, camping, riding quads, dirt biking, working on his trucks and jeeps.
Patrick is lovingly remembered by his mother Linda Ménard; his father Tom Walsh; his sister Shawntal (Ryan); grandparents Jacques and Lise Ménard and grandma Lucy (deceased Basil) as well as extended family and many, many friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held at SOUTH CALGARY FUNERAL CENTRE, 12700 Macleod Trail South (at Lake Fraser Gate), on Saturday, November 16, 2019 at 1:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations being made in Pat’s memory directly to the Children Wish Foundation, (https://childrenswish.org/).
