With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Phyllis Louise Turner, a remarkable woman of strength, independence, and unwavering devotion to her family. Phyllis passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 7, 2025, at the age of 99 in Calgary, Alberta.
Born on June 9, 1925, at the Calgary General Hospital to Wilfred and Gladys Turner, Phyllis was the eldest of six children. From a young age, she embraced her role as the steadfast anchor of her family. Her fierce loyalty and deep love for her siblings defined her life, and she remained a devoted caretaker to her mother while offering boundless support and joy to her brothers and sister. Phyllis shared an extraordinary bond with her sister, Roberta, who was not only her sibling but her best friend and confidante.
Phyllis dedicated over three decades to her career at Palace Bakery, where her work ethic and warm spirit endeared her to colleagues and customers alike. Although she never married or had children of her own, she extended the love of a mother to her nieces and nephews, treating them as if they were her own and leaving an indelible mark on their lives.
Phyllis lived a full and vibrant life, defined by her kindness, selflessness, and resilience. Her heart, however, could not bear the loss of her sister, Roberta, who passed away just 11 days before her. Their connection was profound, transcending earthly bounds, and in her final days, Phyllis chose to join her beloved sister and the rest of her family in eternal peace.
Surrounded by her loving nieces Michelle and Susan and her great-niece Holley, Phyllis passed into God’s embrace with grace and tranquility. She leaves behind a legacy of love, resilience, and cherished memories that will forever live in the hearts of those who knew her.
Phyllis is predeceased by her parents, Wilfred and Gladys Turner; her brothers Sonny, Frank, Don, and Steve; and her beloved sister, Roberta.
Phyllis Turner’s life was a testament to the enduring power of love and family. Her legacy is one of strength, kindness, and devotion. She also leaves behind a large extended family who will forever cherish her warmth, grace, and enduring kindness. She will be remembered for her infectious warmth, her unwavering loyalty, and the life lessons she instilled in those she held dear.
May she rest in eternal peace, reunited with her family and embraced by God’s light.
