Raili Maria Hahmo passed away peacefully at the age of 86, surrounded by the love of her family on August 7, 2018 at the Foothills Country Hospice. She will be greatly missed by sons Arto (Lisa) and Kari (May) and daughter Mai-Liz; grandchildren: Kaitlyn (Mark), Sarah, Braeden (Julie), Kelsey and Spencer; and great grandson Maddon. Raili was predeceased by husband Paul and son Ari.
Raili immigrated to Edmonton from Finland in 1953. She met the love of her life, Paul, and they were married in 1955. After they had their first child Arto in Edmonton, they moved to Calgary, where they had the rest of their children, Kari, Ari and Mai-Liz. While in Calgary, Raili helped Paul start 3 businesses. She enjoyed many outdoor activities including cross country skiing, hiking and kayaking.
In 1987, Raili and Paul moved near Caroline to start farming. With the help of great friends and neighbours they started to ranch pure bred Simmental cattle. Raili and Paul became very close friends with Russell and Shirley King and they were inseparable. After the deaths of both Paul and Ari in 2011, Raili decided to return to Calgary to be close to the rest of her family.
We would like to thank the staff and volunteers at the Foothills Country Hospice for making her last few weeks comfortable.
A Memorial Service will be held at SOUTH CALGARY FUNERAL CENTRE, 12700 Macleod Trail South (at Lake Fraser Gate), on Sunday, August 12, 2018 at 2:00 p.m.
If friends so desire, a donation can be made in Raili’s memory directly to the Foothills Country Hospice Society, (www.countryhospice.org).
