Reynaldo "Dong" Madriaga

Reynaldo “Dong” Madriaga was born on October 6th, 1957 in Alcala, Pangasinan in the Philippines as the 5th of 6 children. He completed his education in the Philippines before immigrating to Calgary, AB in 1991 where he planted his roots to call home for the last 31 years. Dong had a successful career as a Pipefitter with Enerflex for 22 years. Dong was extremely loved and will be greatly missed by friends and family alike. He was known for the ways he lived life to the fullest, spending his free time travelling, fishing, biking, and of course, performing solo karaoke concerts when no one else was around. He will be remembered for the way he approached life with a natural playfulness, always getting a gentle tease out of those around him.

The Lord welcomed Dong, at the age of 64, into his arms on February 15th, 2022 as he passed peacefully at South Health Campus ICU following a courageous, 5-week-long battle with illness. In his time on earth, nothing brought more joy to him than being around his friends and family, and Dong was blessed to be surrounded by loved ones on his journey home to heaven and was greeted with open arms by his parents and 4 brothers who predeceased him. Dong is lovingly survived by his wife, Mary Ann; his children Konrad, Koddy, Renalyn, John, Mark, and Rey; his grandchildren AJ, Lucas, and Riella; and his beloved, only sister, Flora. Dong leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, friends, and family in Canada, the US, and Philippines who truly adored him.

Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at a visitation at South Calgary Funeral Centre, 12700 Macleod Trail South (at Lake Fraser Gate), on Friday, February 18, 2022 from 4:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m.

Friends and family are invited to a Celebration of Life and Prayer Service honouring Dong at St. Cecelia’s Parish (321 90 Ave SE, Calgary AB), on Saturday, February 19, 2022 at 1:00 p.m.

His ashes will be laid to rest at the Sacred Heart Church and Columbarium.
