Ricardo was born in Mangoso Sigma Capiz, Philippines. He left his home country and moved to Canada in 1975, and chose to settle in Calgary, his new home.
On January 13, 1979 he wed his beloved wife, Ma Restie Galanto. Together, they celebrated 46 years of marriage. He passed away just shy of their 47th wedding anniversary.
Rick came to Canada to build a career as an automotive mechanic. He worked as a heavy duty mechanic working for Canadian Pacific Railway in his early years in Calgary. He even fulfilled his dream to open his own auto repair shop in the 1980's. His work as a heavy duty mechanic brought him as far away as Libya, where he worked in the oil industry there in the 1990's. Following that, he worked in various industries, but continued to do work as an auto mechanic for many more years before retiring.
Rick was known to be a man of few words. He was a quiet, hard worker who was described by his friends and family as thoughtful, fun loving and caring.
He had a passion for sports, especially boxing and he also enjoyed relaxing while watching his favourite quiz show, “Jeopardy”. Though quiet by nature, Rick greatly valued the time he spent with friends.
Family meant everything to him particularly his two daughters, Marjorie and Kimberly. He deeply loved seeing and spending time with his eldest grandson, Ethan, and was also blessed to meet his youngest grandson, Lucas.
Ricardo was courageous in his battle with cancer and dementia, and faced every challenge with dignity.
Rick's family would like to thank all the caregivers at Rockyview General Hospital for all their care and services, including all the doctors, nurses and hospital aids who took care of him. They would also like to recognize Cancer Care Alberta for their support over the years.
He will be deeply missed, but he will forever be loved and live on in the hearts and minds of all his beloved family and friends.
The family will be holding a viewing from 5:00pm-6:30pm followed by a prayer service and dinner starting at 6:30pm on Wednesday, January 14, 2026 at South Calgary Funeral Centre located at 12700 Macleod Trail SE in Calgary.
