Roman passed away in Calgary, Alberta, Canada on Thursday, September 19, 2013 at the age of 85 years.
Roman will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his daughter Irene (Jason); son Nico (Masumi); and his grandsons Luke and Noah. He was born in the Ukraine, and spent parts of his life in Austria, the United States, and finally settled in Calgary, Canada with his family. He was a respected scholar and teacher in the field of Germanic and Slavic literature. He was a loving father and found great joy in hiking, travel, music, and art. After retirement, he wanted to reconnect with his roots, and returned to the Ukraine as a visiting professor. Although he lost contact with some, the people that touched his life meant everything to him.
A Funeral Service will be held at FOSTER’S GARDEN CHAPEL, 3220 – 4 Street N.W., Calgary (across from Queen’s Park Cemetery) on Friday, September 27, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. with interment to follow at Queen’s Park Cemetery.
